He would know.

President Donald Trump's tax returns and his infamous decision to conceal them from the public have been a source of controversy since before his election in 2016. Many have speculated that Trump is avoiding releasing his returns because they'd give insight to problematic, perhaps even criminal dealings.

Trump's rather consistent excuse for the past two and a half years has been that he's under audit and must release them after that audit is complete. Many have pointed out that audits don't hinder the process of releasing tax returns.

Maybe Trump will believe that now that Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Charles Rettig had to answer the question directly for a House Appropriations Committee panel, which requested that Rettig release Trump's returns to them last week.

Rettig's answer as to whether or not tax returns can be released while under audit is pretty straightforward.

Watch below:

In responding to Congressman Sanford Bishop (D-GA), Rettig replied:

"I think I've answered that question. No."

While Rettig hesitated to get into specifics regarding the President, he conceded that audits do not prohibit a person from releasing their tax returns.

People were excited to let Trump know.

People weren't necessarily surprised by Rettig's answer, however.

But many questions remain about the audit, like: Does it exist? If it does, why has it continued for so long?

Curiouser and curiouser...

MAGA Fan Has Unhinged Meltdown After Starbucks Barista Doesn't Call Out 'Charlie Kirk' With Her Order

When the order is done, the barista will call out the name on the cup to let the customer know their order is ready. However, if there aren't many people in the store, it's not uncommon for a person to just have their drink handed to them or brought to their table if they're seated.

Bad Bunny Hilariously Trolls Fox News Over Their Super Bowl Outrage In 'SNL' Season Opener

Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny took aim at Fox News and the conservative outrage over his upcoming Super Bowl halftime show during the season 51 premiere of Saturday Night Live over the weekend, joking that all of his critics have "four months to learn" Spanish if they're that bothered about him singing in his native tongue during football's biggest night.

Bad Bunny will be the first Latin male artist to headline the halftime show, but many of President Donald Trump's supporters have vowed to boycott the event. At least one far-right figure said Bad Bunny "will just further divide the American people" and suggested that either the right-wing performers Kid Rock or Jason Aldean should headline the show instead.
