Former Trump Lawyer Gets Dragged After Condemning Pro-Trump Coup

The months between Election Day of 2020 and Inauguration Day of 2021 should have been rather mundane—a lame duck period after years of a grueling election cycle.

Thanks to former President Donald Trump, it was anything but.

Trump repeatedly—and delusionally—insisted the 2020 election was "stolen" from him by Democrats engaging in widespread election fraud. His team held chaotic hearings, bumbling press conferences, and filed frivolous lawsuits, none of which proved widespread fraud.

But even after Trump's own Justice Department said there was no evidence of election fraud, the former President and his ilk continued to push the big lie, which culminated in a deadly failed insurrection against the United States Capitol that endangered every member of Congress along with Trump's own Vice President.

One of the major purveyors of the big lie in those chaotic months was Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis, who—along with Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani—became the public face of the effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Ellis condemned the violence at the time, but continues to make the rounds on far-right podcasts and media outlets, still blaring support for Trump and standing by her earlier claims of widespread fraud.

But on Friday, after she pushed back against delusional claims from pro-Trump pillow salesman Mike Lindell that Trump could be reinstated to the White House, Ellis got pushback from Trump supporters.

She condemned one follower who said that Trump supporters should put him back in the White House by any means necessary—even beyond the bounds of the Constitution.

Ellis referred to that as "insane."

Ellis spent months propping up lies that the election was stolen and that American elections were not to be trusted. The man she represented told his supporters to "fight like hell" to keep him in power despite the Constitutional process.

What did she expect?

She faced further backlash from Trump supporters for not endorsing a coup.

Yikes.

Some say that parenting is an impossible job, with an unending list of decisions and possible missteps, but parenting might feel uniquely impossible to someone in Savannah Guthrie's position.

Guthrie's mother, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, went missing from her home at the end of January. Her absence was first noted when she did not appear at church service that Sunday. One of her doors was discovered ajar and a single image of a blurry figure was caught on camera, and there's been no sign of her or her whereabouts since.
