Is SNL on Tonight? 2/17/18

SNL fans will be sad to learn that there will be no SNL tonight.

The sketch comedy series will be taking a three-week break for the Winter Olympics. The show will return on March 3, with basketball icon Charles Barkley hosting. The musical guest will be Migos.

Musical trio Migos took to social media on Feb 4 to make the announcement about their SNL appearance. Composed of Quavo, Offset and Takeoff, Migos is originally from Lawrenceville, Georgia, and formed in 2009. Interestingly, the group's name derives from a reference to the Georgia drug trade; a "migos" is an abandoned house used to produce or consume drugs, according to Elite Daily.

This marks Migos' first time headlining SNL. While they did make an appearance last year, that was to join Katy Perry for a performance of "Bon Appetit." The group is taking the SNL stage this go-around to promote their recent album, Culture II. Rolling Stone gave the new album a 3/5, writing, "Culture II ultimately feels less like a celebratory howl from the mountaintop than a transitional inventory dump." Pitchfork, meanwhile, wrote, "Where Culture was an event, its follow-up feels more like an occurrence, the quality of its songs handicapped by an album that plays like a long and formless grab bag."
