The talk show host explained to guest Cynthia Erivo why she's so "touchy" after being warned to "back off" from touching her guests—and Erivo chimed in with some insights of her own.

During a recent episode of her talk show, Drew Barrymore explained to Cynthia Erivo why she's "touchy" with her guests, and honestly, we get it.

On Tuesday, the host sat down with the Wicked star on The Drew Barrymore Show, and opened up about being told to "back off" when it comes to making physical contact with her guests.

Barrymore certainly has her reasons, and Erivo completely supported them with some insight of her own, to boot.

The host began:

"I'm single; I'm not dating anyone."
"I don't have that in my life."

She continued:

"But I don't know how I could ever hold back from holding hands."

The Charlie's Angels star revealed she has been warned to "back off a little bit" with guests on her show, asking Erivo of her Wicked costar:

“Is it true that [Ariana Grande] is as touchy?”

Erivo confirmed that she is, adding that physical touch is a means of communication.

“I think I’m sort of used to it now."
“If it’s not connected, I’m like: ‘What’s wrong? What’s happening? Where are you?’”

Erivo also, however, noted that there are those in the world who are “afraid of physical connection.”

“We assume that physical connection can only be romantic."

The host chimed in:

“Yes! That’s my point! You’re saying it so much better than I did.”

And Erivo continued:

“In fact, I think when there is a romantic connection, I’m far more timid."

She later added:

“Sometimes you can’t say anything, and you’re in a room and it’s just like a squeeze of a hand."

In fact, Erivo mentioned, a “squeeze of the hand, or just a pinch of a finger” is how she and Grande frequently communicate with each other.
