It proved to be quite an eventful Valentine's Day for two police officers from the Spring Township Police Department who were monitoring traffic in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.

They received a most unwelcome Valentine in the form of a runaway tire from a passing pickup truck which smashed into their windshield.

The footage was captured in the dashcam of their patrol car, which the Spring Township Police Department shared to their Facebook page.

The 27-second video began calmly, until a tire could be seen rolling in the direction of the police cruiser.

The tire hit the concrete median dividing the highway, then bounced in the direction of the police car, crashing into the windshield and shattering it.

Thankfully both of the officers in the car as well as the driver of the pickup truck were unharmed.

"Talk about expecting the unexpected!"
"Luckily, the tire struck the cruiser and then launched in the air to the opposite side of the road, instead of traveling into the opposite lane and striking a moving vehicle coming in the other direction."
"The cruiser suffered some extensive damage, but both officers and the driver in the truck were not injured."

The Spring Township Police Department later posted a second video of the accident to their Facebook page, this time taken from the bodycam of one of the officers in the car.

People responded online, some expressing their relief no one was hurt.

Some felt the footage indicated police cars shouldn't park in the median when monitoring traffic, believing the incident could have been avoided.

The driver of the pickup truck from where the rogue tire escaped was not issued a citation, according to the Centre Daily Times.

Police Chief Adam Salyards called the incident a "freak accident."

The police cruiser suffered extensive damage, but Chief Salyards didn't release a cost estimate for repairs.
