Greg Abbott Tried To Shame Dallas Cowboys' Kicker After Loss—And Twitter Wasn't Having It

The GOP Texas Governor's joke about Brett Maher after the Cowboys' loss to the San Francisco 49ers didn't go down well.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott was criticized after he tried to shame Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher for failing to make his fifth extra point of the postseason after missing four in a row last week.

A frustrated Abbott took to Twitter to complain that he "can kick as good as the Dallas Cowboys kicker."

You can see his tweet below.

The tweet was an odd one considering Abbott is a member of the disabled community and has been paralyzed below the waist since 1984, when an oak tree fell on him while he was jogging after a storm. Abbott is always seen in his wheelchair.

But as Abbott quickly found out, people were keen on reminding him that they are less happy with his leadership than he is over a football game.

Many took him to task for his attacks against public education, for curtailing reproductive rights, for failing to address mass shootings or support gun control, and for his lackluster response to the 2021 winter storm that caused the entire Texas power grid to collapse.

Maher's missed point after touchdown was his fifth since last week's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It wasn't all bad, however.

Maher later made two field goals in the game, hitting a 25-yarder in the third quarter and a 43-yarder in the fourth, even if these efforts were not enough to win the Cowboys the game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Cowboys ultimately lost the game, 19-12, continuing a "streak of not reaching the NFC Championship since 1995 continues, and just as it did last year, it came on an odd final play," according to Fox News sports reporter Scott Thompson, who noted that Cowboys fans roasted the play design considering the Cowboys could have won the game with a touchdown.

Brooke Shields Has Hilarious Reaction After She's Given Awkwardly Short Chair On 'Today' Show

People who have not performed in front of a live audience might assume that adequate rehearsal time and production planning ensure things will go smoothly.

But seasoned performers will tell you that mistakes happen, no matter how well-rehearsed or fine-tuned the project is. When the mistake is obvious enough that the audience becomes aware of it, the best thing to do is laugh it off or incorporate the mistake into the program as much as possible to keep the show going.
