For those unfamiliar with the HBO series, Westworld is a science fiction Western series based on the 1973 Michael Crichton penned and directed film of the same name and the film's 1976 sequel Futureworld.

The story takes place in a fictional, technologically advanced Wild-West-themed amusement park.

The park is populated by android hosts. Wealthy guests get to live out their fantasies within the park without fear of retaliation from android hosts. Reminiscent of Asimov's First Rule of Robotics, the androids' programming is supposed to keep them from harming humans.

Anyone who saw the 1973 film knows how that worked out.

Now in the series' upcoming 3rd season, show creators are filling fans in on how things went so terribly wrong.

And based on the following trailer, it appears it all comes down to one person:

President Donald J. Trump.

Westworld | Season 3 – Date Announce | 2020 (HBO)youtu.be

Amidst the confusion and chaos the series is known for, one point is clear. Trump's presidency put humanity on the path to the robot apocalypse.

The case could be made that his misdeeds while President led to the destabilization of the world or that it was his being held accountable for his misdeeds that led to the robot uprising. However based on prior comments by actor Jeffrey Wright who plays Bernard Lowe, head of the Westworld Programming Division, it would seem the indictment is against the former rather than the latter.

In 2018 Wright responded to a question about why dystopian stories like Westworld were so popular. He pointed to the "current leadership in the country and the current dialogue."

Prior to this trailer, Trump's influence purely speculation.

Now, it's canon.

The Trump administration is officially part of the sequence of events that leads to the robot apocalypse.

People were not exactly disputing the possibility.

So, when does this guy show up?

AOC Has Mic Drop Response To MAGA Republicans Who Try To Mock 'Democratic Priorities'

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued a powerful rebuke against President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, pointing out why mocking things like affordable housing and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as "Democrat priorities" ultimately hurts Republicans.

Ocasio-Cortez, speaking during a CNN town hall alongside Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders, accused Republicans of refusing to work to end the government shutdown, stressing that the country’s health care system could collapse if Republicans refuse to meet Democrats’ demands in negotiations.

GOP Rep. Blames Coordinated 'Ruse' After Swastika Image Is Seen Displayed In His Office

Ohio Republican Representative Dave Taylor demanded an investigation after a swastika image was found on display in his Washington, D.C., office, and blamed it on a "targeted" "ruse."

Politico obtained a photo from a virtual meeting showing a distorted image of the American flag—its red and white lines altered into the shape of a swastika— pinned to what appears to be a cubicle wall behind Angelo Elia, a staffer for Taylor. Beside it hung a pocket Constitution and a congressional calendar. Elia’s involvement in the incident, if any, remains unclear.
