Fans got their first look at the new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker when it dropped on Friday and the buzz is already on hyper-speed.

After 42 years since the original Star Wars captivated audiences and forever changed the landscape of Hollywood through memorable characters and game-changing special effects, The Rise of Skywalker will pick up after 2017's The Last Jedi to close out this chapter of the saga.

The first look at the trailer reveals some surprises.

The movie will finally bring back Lando Calrissian reprised by Billy Dee Williams.

We also see Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa from repurposed footage filmed before her death in 2016.

The previously departed Luke Skywalker can be heard saying, "No one's ever really gone," followed by a sinister cackle that we can only assume to be Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).

We last saw Palpatine in Return of the Jedi (1983) being sent over into a bottomless chamber by none other than his former protege Darth Vader and was assumed to be dead, especially after the Death Star was obliterated.

So will we be seeing Palpatine's ghost?

Star Wars fans are already expecting great things with J.J. Abrams returning to the director's chair after 2015's The Force Awakens.

Diehard fans were unforgiving with director Rian Johnson's work in The Last Jedi, but not everyone lost hope for a redemptive next chapter.

The power of John Williams's legendary theme transcends time and never fails to hit all the right notes.

Twitter declared their favorite scenes from the trailer.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will finish the story of the Skywalker family as the Resistance prepares to battle with the First Order under the leadership of the new Supreme Leader, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver.)

Returning one last time will be Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher (courtesy of existing footage) and the long-awaited return of Billy Dee Williams, and co-starring Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Rose Kelly Marie Tran.

The film will also introduce new characters featuring Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings) and Keri Russell–who reunited with Abrams for this production. The director is the creator of the popular drama series Felicity (1999) which starred Russell in the titular role.

The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20.
