The legendary actor is reportedly in the hospital after suffering several fractures following a fall at her home in Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday.

Fans sent an outpouring of love to revered Italian cinema legend Sophia Loren after she sustained injuries resulting from a fall on Sunday in the bathroom of her home in Geneva, Switzerland.

The actress, who just turned 89 on September 20, was named by the American Film Institute (AFI) as one of the greatest stars of classical Hollywood cinema.

A representative said she suffered several fractures, including to her femur and hip, as a result of the fall.

However, the rep told the press they are optimistic for a full recovery following emergency surgery.

Lauren's restaurant chain, which bears her name, informed fans of the incident on its Instagram page.

The post translated from Italian read:

“A fall at her home in Geneva today caused Ms Loren hip fractures."
"Operated with a positive outcome, she will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation."
"Thankfully everything worked out for the best and the Lady will be back with us very soon."

They added:

"The whole team at Sophia Loren Restaurant takes this opportunity to wish her a speedy recovery. #sophialoren @sophialorenrestaurant.”

Here is the post.

The post was flooded with commenters wishing Loren lots of love and hope for a quick recovery.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the actress was scheduled to open her fourth restaurant in the Italian city of Bari on September 26.

She was also set to receive honorary citizenship from the city.

Foreseeable engagements have now been canceled as she is expected to convalesce and go through an extensive period of rehabilitation.

Loren began her acting career in 1950 at the age of sixteen after she enrolled in a beauty pageant and was encouraged to take acting lessons.

After appearing in minor roles, she signed a five-picture contract with Paramount in 1956, which launched her international film career.

Loren holds the record for winning seven Best Actress David di Donatello Awards–the Italian equivalent of the Academy Awards given out annually by the Academy of Italian Cinema.

She became the first woman to win an Oscar for a non-English speaking performance as Cesira in the 1961 film Two Women.

Her memorable appearances in American films include Hollywood favorites like Grumpier Old Men (1995), Nine (2009), and The Life Ahead (2020).

Here's to a speedy recovery, our Queen of Cinema.
