A prequel movie to The Sopranos has been in the works for a while now. Titled The Many Saints of Newark, it will be written by the OG show's creator, David Chase. Much speculation has occurred over who will play the iconic role of Tony Soprano. Could any actor possibly fill the shoes of the late James Gandolfini? The answer is, in fact, yes.

After an extensive audition process, young Tony Soprano will be played by Michael Gandolfini.

Yep, this Gandolfini is related to James. In fact, Michael is his son.

After his casting was announced, Michael stated,

"It's a profound honor to continue my dad's legacy while stepping into the shoes of a young Tony Soprano."

He went on to say,

"I'm thrilled that I'm going to have the opportunity to work with David Chase and the incredible company of talent he has assembled for The Many Saints of Newark."

Michael Gandolfini is best known for his work in The Deuce.

People are thrilled by casting's choice and their simultaneous tribute to James Gandolfini.

Congratulations, Michael! Your dad would be proud.
