People Share Their First Memory Of The Internet

I remember the beginning.....

Only the simpler times.... well were they simpler? We had to do things like, write letters and lick stamps and send carrier pigeons. Technology has changes life in ways we never thought were possible in good.... and bad ways. Let's discuss the old days, the days when the internet was something we couldn't understand.

Redditor u/XeroAbility wanted us all to share our origin tales of the internet by asking.... What's your first memory of the internet?

What's in a Name?

Giphy

Trying to come up with an AOL screen name in November 1995, then being told I only have 10 minutes to be online because we were paying by the minute. cousin_geri

I played cartoon network too, along with disney. I remember the Scooby Doo game where you are like in a maze with the light where you are. CenkwebmDJ

Sail Away...

Giphy

Trying to look at Sailor Moon artwork. Each picture took 5 minutes to load. bubble-wrap-is-life

Me too! I even had a Sailor Moon webpage. Taught myself HTML and it was in Angelfire. Needless to say, I was not running with the cool kids as a child. anabaena1

Napped.

Napster, ICQ. kissxokissxokill

Yes ICQ. Surprised to just see this. Napster was the best too. mycrapmailis

Instantly brought that song back into my head. Has to be 20 years since I've thought of it. ItIsAContest

Note that "that song" is from Disney's animated Robin Hood but sped up.

Go Back.

Club penguin. MIIKE04

I've always wanted to go back and play it again for nostalgia's sake, but unfortunately we can't do that. Drippygaber

I vividly remember the Search Engine wars of the late 90's. People liked Yahoo, Altavista, or Google like they were sports teams.

Ask Jeeve's had a butler theme.

Google showed you how many pages they had indexed. A google doodle was very, very rare and special.

We bought Pokemon Yellow off of Amazon in 1999. I had to get my second grade teacher to sign a note my mother wrote, because she was CERTAIN she was going to get her card info stolen. She signed it and called my mom and told her about Amazon. It came in two weeks. CleanTemperature8

Approximately 1994....

Giphy

Approximately 1994, I'm 5 years old, older brother tells me to type in boobies. Down the screen drips a woman showing off what I assumed was a wig on her pee pee. Brother tells mom what I did, no more computer. RickGrimesLol

Prodigy.

Using prodigy back in 1990. blipsman

Yes! I was scrolling down just looking for someone to say Prodigy! And now there's a cute little math-practice RPG for kids by the same name, and every time my second grader asks of she can play Prodigy it throws me back in time for a second. HorseAndDragon

Downloaded.

Giphy

In high school in the early 90s a "computer nerd" friend showed me how to download a copy of the script to "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", and I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

Five years later, I met my husband online - much cooler 😉. bubbabearzle

Gavin Newsom Shared The Perfect Meme After Trump Claimed Vance Is 'Involved' In Iran Negotiations

California Governor Gavin Newsom had a quick and snarky response after President Donald Trump downplayed the role Vice President JD Vance plays in Iran negotiations amid a war that, now in its fourth week, has killed at least 13 U.S. military service members and more than 1,400 Iranians.

Asked to respond to reports Vance is "leading" negotiations, Trump said Vance is just one of several top officials who are "involved":

Video Of Anna Kendrick And Kieran Culkin's Uncomfortable Reaction After Interviewer Called Michael Cera 'Unattractive' Resurfaces

It’s the kind of interview moment that makes your skin crawl—and somehow, it only gets worse the longer it lingers.

Flash back to 2010, when Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was in full press junket mode, and its cast—Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, and Michael Cera—were making the usual promotional rounds.

Trump Gets Brutal Reminder After Shaming Former Counterterrorism Chief For Remarrying Too Quickly After Wife's Death

President Donald Trump was given a blunt reminder of his own past after he shamed Joe Kent, the former National Counterterrorism Center director who recently resigned over the war with Iran, saying Kent had remarried too quickly after the death of his first wife.

Kent, a former Green Beret and political candidate with ties to right-wing extremists, was confirmed last July in a 52–44 vote to lead the National Counterterrorism Center, where he oversaw efforts to analyze and detect terrorist threats.

Viral Compilation Video Of Obama Being A Total Class Act To Strangers Is Giving Us All The Feels

Democratic President Barack Obama has been out of office since January 20, 2017—almost a decade now. His critics, especially MAGA Republican President Donald Trump's MAGA minions, still despise him.

But his admirers miss him more than ever during a presidency marked by puerile name-calling and petty vengeance.
