When someone cheats on you, it can be a life altering event.

You place your trust in another person, sometimes so deeply that the betrayal is earth shattering.

A question you'll ask of yourself—and often never get a true answer for—is "Why?"

You will however, often get really dumb excuses.

Over on Twitter, user @that1mum asked precisely that of the internet.

She asked for the funniest excuses given when someone cheated on you.

She was also super helpful and went first to break the ice. Apparently, someone decided they couldn't take her fear of driving a car and just had to cheat on her. They had no choice.

Others were a little more telling and gave excuses involving sex.

Which is, you know, kinda yikes.

Others went a little more creative. Though the excuses are about as believable as "The dog ate my homework."

I mean, how confused are you that two different people with the same name trips you up?

Another person couldn't decide if they were still dating because their significant other had the audacity to...

...sleep?

Cheating is already a horrible action to take against someone, but wanna know how to make it worse?

Claim you did it for them.

If you've never been cheated on, consider yourself lucky.

You don't have to experience these excuses after having your heart broken firsthand.

However, you also don't get to experience someone trying to tell the weirdest lies you can imagine on the spot.

Lastly, we have the absolute classic excuse.

The phrase that's been uttered the most in relation to cheating on someone.

"I don't know."

Truly a classic.

The internet is more than willing to share these kinds of stories. The shared pain can help bring us all together, and maybe teach people about how much they'll hurt someone if they do this.

On the other hand, maybe no one will learn anything, and we'll be back here in a few months with a new set of excuses.

Ellen DeGeneres Just Tried To Mow The Lawn At Her Sprawling UK Estate—And It Went South Fast

Say what you may about Ellen DeGeneres, but we can all agree that she's always tried to find the funny side in a situation, even if it's something that should be as mundane as mowing the lawn.

DeGeneres left the talk show scene in 2022 after allegations ran rampant about her running a toxic workplace, so when President Donald Trump was elected for a second term, it seemed the perfect time for the entertainer and her wife, Portia de Rossi, to look for greener pastures, namely in the U.K.
