Democratic Congressman Has Perfect Comeback After Trump Ally Calls for Whistleblower to Testify at Impeachment Hearing

Democratic Congressman Has Perfect Comeback After Trump Ally Calls for Whistleblower to Testify at Impeachment Hearing
C-SPAN

Boom.

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee overseeing the first public hearings in the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump were scrambling to discredit the effort all together.

Chief among them was Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), who was recently added to the Intelligence Committee for his reputation as a Republican attack dog.

Attack, Jordan did. Toward the end of the testimony, Jordan called for the whistleblower, whose complaint spurred the inquiry, to testify, characterizing the whistleblower as "the person that started it all."

That's when Congressman Peter Welch (D-VT) responded with a devastating comeback.

Watch below.

Welch pointed out that the anonymous whistleblower didn't start it all, but Trump did by pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate his potential 2020 opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden.

Welch said:

"I'd be glad to have the person who started it all to come in and testify. President Trump is welcome to take a seat right there."

The quip drew laughter from the entire room.

While the response may have seemed jocular, the idea behind it was completely valid.

While Democrats largely stuck to the threats Trump's pressure on the Ukrainian President posed to national security and rule of law, Republicans stuck to Jordan's line of defense: Biden is the real criminal, there was no quid pro quo, and the whistleblower isn't credible.

We'll see if that works.

Ted Cruz Clashes With 'Crazy' MTG Over Her Cryptic Post Alluding That 'The Jews' Are Trying To Kill Her

Texas MAGA Republican Senator Rafael "Ted" Cruz raised eyebrows when he attacked Georgia QAnon/MAGA Republican Representative and conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) for being antisemitic.

MTG has promoted some antisemitic conspiracy theories in the past, like Jewish space lasers that control the weather or start wildfires, but this time people are calling Cruz out for reaching in an attempt to discredit the Georgia Republican and protect Trump from what's being concealed in FBI, Department of Justice, and court records relating to the indictment of Jeffrey Epstein on charges of sex trafficking of minors.

After far-right provocateur Nick Adams suggested that the singer, a fierce critic of the Trump administration, should not have been chosen for the halftime gig, California Governor Gavin Newsom's press office took to X to mock him in the account's now familiar Trump-esque style.
