Mike Pence Just Suspended His Bid For President—And Everyone Is Making The Same Joke

Contraception and abortion jokes quickly hit X, formerly Twitter, after Pence suspended his 2024 presidential campaign.

Former Republican Vice President Mike Pence just announced he suspended his campaign for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

In response, social media users mocked him for withdrawing by using one of his own pro-life talking points against him.

Pence suspended his presidential campaign after exhibiting drastically low poll numbers against his ex-boss, former Republican President Donald Trump, who remains the GOP presidential nomination frontrunner even though he faces multiple charges for alleged federal crimes.

On Saturday, Pence told gatherers at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual conference in Las Vegas:

“After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today."

The evangelical, born-again Christian referred to the gospel when addressing attendees, saying that "the Bible tells us there is a time for every purpose under heaven” and that “it has come clear to me that this is not my time.”

The devoutly religious and anti-LGBTQ+ former veep is also a hard-line pro-lifer who has supported a nationwide ban on abortion at 15 weeks of gestation.

After news of his announcement over the weekend, people couldn't help but use his anti-abortion rhetoric to comment on his inability to see things through.

Social media users took to X (formerly Twitter) and made the same jokes.

Pence received backlash from MAGA supporters following the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol after he certified Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as winners of the 2020 Presidential election.

Many saw this as a betrayal of Trump, who perpetuated the big lie and tried to overturn what he falsely believed was a stolen election.

When Pence launched his bid for 2024 back in June, he made a dig at Trump by saying "Anyone who puts themselves over the constitution should never be president of the United States.”

He added:

“And anyone who asks someone else to put them over the constitution should never be president again."

Pence told CNN in an August interview:

“What I want the American people to know is that President Trump was wrong then and he’s wrong now that I had no right to overturn the election."
"I had no right to reject or return votes, and that, by God’s grace, I did my duty under the Constitution of the United States,”

Pence later assured Republican voters:

“I’m leaving this campaign, but let me promise you, I will never leave the fight for conservative values and I will never stop fighting to elect principled Republican leaders to every office in the land."
"So help me God."

NBC Apologizes After Commentators Repeatedly Misgendered Trans Winter Olympic Skier

The International Olympic Committee is still trying to figure out what their position on transgender inclusion looks like and how decisions are made regarding which events athletes compete in. In the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Filipino boxer Hergie Bacyadan, a transgender man, had to compete in the women’s event because of their stage in their transition.

In the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics this year, per International Ski Federation regulations, Swedish moguls skier Elis Lundholm also has to compete in the women’s moguls event because he hasn't begun a masculinizing hormone replacement therapy regimen yet.
