In light of all the anti-trans sentiment being shared by right wing media and politicians, it can be great to see support from a public and very vocal figure.

Actor Jamie Lee Curtis, known for her roles in the 'Halloween' series and the 'Freaky Friday' remake, gave a heartwarming birthday message to her daughter, Ruby Guest. In the public message, Curtis also criticized the anti-trans legislation being enacted across the country.

The message was shared on both Twitter and Instagram to the actor’s verified accounts.

Curtis’ daughter, Ruby, came out as transgender to her parents in 2020. The following year, Curtis and her husband, Christopher Guest, spoke in support of their daughter’s transition.

On March 13th, for Ruby’s birthday, Curtis posted a picture of herself wearing a shirt with a fist in the colors of the trans flag.

The Instagram post said:

“I am proud and grateful to be the parent of a trans child and am sending support to all of the trans families across the US who are being targeted in this moment by conservative legislatures.”

The post goes on to call out the government for being used to attack parents providing gender-affirming care to their children, calling them “anti-American.”

She ends the post saying she’s proud of her daughter Ruby, and vows to speak in support of trans youth.

The legislation to which Curtis is referring is being passed by Republican politicians across the country.

Last week, Idaho passed legislation to ban puberty blocking treatment and hormone therapy, and criminalize anyone who took a child out of state to receive the treatment instead. Anyone found breaking this law could see up life in prison.

Texas governor Greg Abbott called puberty blockers “child abuse” and authorized and directed child protective services in the state to target the families of trans children for investigation.

Louisiana recently introduced a bill that prohibited gender transition procedures for anyone under the age of 18, and required school officials to inform parents should a child comes out as trans.

In light of all of this, Curtis’ message is appreciated by many people supporting human rights. Ruby in particular couldn’t be prouder of her mother.

She posted how grateful she was to have an ally in the trans community.

Curtis has admitted this experience is new for her. While she loves and supports her daughter, she also knows this is still something she’s learning and growing to understand.

When she spoke to People last year about it, she said:

“It’s speaking a new language. It’s learning new terminology and words. I am new at it.”
“I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it. And I’m going to blow it, I’m going to make mistakes.”

So far, she’s been doing great. She ended that quote saying that if even just one person is made more comfortable in who they are, seeing how Ruby is loved and supported, then it’s all worth it.
