Selma Blair And Sarah Michelle Gellar Just Recreated Their Infamous 'Cruel Intentions' Kiss—With A Pandemic Twist

Selma Blair And Sarah Michelle Gellar Just Recreated Their Infamous 'Cruel Intentions' Kiss—With A Pandemic Twist
Columbia Pictures

At this point in the pandemic, many of us are probably running out of entertainment options and digging into the archives of old movies and shows we loved from years ago.

For folks for whom this includes, say, the 1999 film Cruel Intentions, this week brought a very special reboot of sorts. Two of the film's stars, Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar, recreated their infamous kiss that had everyone talking back at the turn of the century. But this time, they gave it a special pandemic-themed update.

In honor of Blair's 48th birthday, the two threw back to one of the film's most iconic scenes by sharing a masked kiss on Instagram.

Gellar captioned the post, "I got my kiss," in reference to an earlier Instagram post where she posted a throwback photo of her and Blair recreating their big movie moment at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards.

In the caption for the post, Gellar joked about social distancing.

"Since I will have to stay six feet away from you today (and wear a mask) this will be as close as I get to giving you a birthday kiss."

Cruel Intentions caused quite a stir back in 1999.

An adaptation of the classic novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses that swaps 18th-century France for the debauched world of late-90s New York City prep schools, the film brought actors like Blair to prominence and helped make co-stars like Reese Witherspoon household names.

But it was the film's racy teenage love scenes that raised the most eyebrows.

And the scene where Sarah Michelle Gellar teaches Selma Blair how to French kiss—the one that inspired their recent Instagram flirtations—was among the most infamous of all.

GOP Senator Faces MAGA Backlash Over Plan To Sell Millions Of Acres Of Public Land

Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee is facing harsh criticism—including from Team MAGA—over his proposal to sell off millions of acres of public land in the American West owned by the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service to supposedly create more affordable housing.

Lee claimed in his proposal that there is an "extensive process for interested parties like States and local governments to nominate land for disposal to meet housing and community needs," noting that it specifically exempts national parks, monuments, and federally designated wilderness areas from potential land sales.

Trump Ripped For Complaining That Americans Get 'Too Many' Federal Holidays Off Work

While it was ultimately former President Joe Biden who established Juneteenth as a federal holiday, President Donald Trump—who once campaigned on that promise—took to Truth Social on Juneteenth to whine about the number of "non-working holidays" Americans get, claiming that it costs businesses "billions of dollars."

Juneteenth is derived from June 19, 1865, when Union troops led by General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and declared that all enslaved African Americans in the state were free.
