Chuck Todd Tells GOP Senator To Stop Trying To Make Trump 'Feel Better' During Tense Interview

While hosting Meet the Press, NBC's Chuck Todd didn't hold back in questioning Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) about revelations that President Donald Trump urged multiple foreign leaders to investigate former Vice President—and Trump's potential 2020 opponent—Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

Trump's transgression spurred House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to officially open an impeachment inquiry into the President, but nearly all Republican leaders have attempted to dismiss the move.

Johnson did his best to be one of them, but Todd called him out for it.

Johnson was attempting to shift the conversation from Trump to former FBI agent Peter Strzok, asking if the House was investigating baseless claims that Strzok's critical texts to other FBI employees about Trump had impeded Strzok's ability to follow the facts of an investigation.

"Senator, I have no idea why a Fox News conspiracy, propaganda stuff is popping up on here," Todd responded. "I have no idea. I have no idea why we're going here."

Johnson insisted that he was merely stating why Trump and his supporters were upset about investigations into Trump's corruption, before Todd continued:

"Senator Johnson, please, can we please answer the question that I asked you instead of trying to make Donald Trump feel better here that you're not criticizing him."

It turns out President Donald Trump did see the show, but—despite the "highly reaspected [sic]" Senator Johnson's answers, he wasn't feeling any better.

While Johnson and Trump may not have appreciated it, many commended Todd's line of questioning.

Others thought Johnson bungled the entire interview.

Perhaps Trump should start looking for some better defenders, or maybe—just maybe—stop committing indefensible acts as President.
