Saturday Night Live is no stranger to controversy, and its latest parody has sparked criticism—this time from The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood.
The sketch, titled “White POTUS,” spoofed the HBO hit by reimagining the Trump family as guests at the lavish White Lotus resort. While most impressions leaned into the show's signature brand of satire, Wood took issue with how her character, Chelsea, was portrayed.
SNL’s Sarah Sherman played Chelsea with exaggerated prosthetic teeth and wide-eyed expressions, in stark contrast to how other characters were handled. Wood, addressing the sketch on Instagram, said the portrayal felt like a “punch down.”
While Wood emphasized she has no personal issue with Sherman—“Not hating on her, just hating on the concept”—she noted that her character was singled out in a way that didn’t match the rest of the sketch’s tone.
"Last thing I'll say on the matter: I am not thin-skinned. I actually love being taken the p**s out of when it's clever and in good spirits."
"But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth. I don't mind caricature; I understand that's what SNL is."
"But the rest of the skit was punching up, and I was the only one punched down on."
Her comments gained traction online, prompting a response from SNL cast member Bowen Yang in a segment for Extra.
He acknowledged Wood’s reaction was “completely valid” and reflected on how parody, while central to comedy, can miss the mark.
“You kind of forget the sort of human, emotional cost that it sort of extols on someone."
"You need those reminders every now and then that parody can go too far sometimes, and that we as comedians can take account for that instead of banging our foot and saying that, like, we should be allowed to say whatever we want because that’s just the culture."
He did emphasize that The White Lotus is a show avidly watched by the SNL cast and crew and that they wish her nothing but the best in it.

Folks sided with Wood and were not fans of how singled-out she was in the SNL sketch.

Folks noted the difference between parody that punches up, like making fun of the out-of-touch characters on the show, and punching down on actors for physical characteristics.
@Shamanized/YouTube
Some commenters pointed out that Wood's unique dental features are difficult to overlook, even on her own show.
@MichelleSK6/YouTube
Some thought Wood should own her unique features, especially in a place like Hollywood.

Finally, Yang's comments were a breath of fresh air in the entertainment industry.

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has publicly clapped back at Harry Potter author JK Rowling's response to the recent U.K. court decision on trans rights.
The country's Supreme Court recently ruled to exclude trans women from the legal definition of a woman in the U.K.
The law, which excludes trans women from several public facilities for women such as homeless shelters and fitting rooms in stores, has been decried by human rights and LGBTQ+ equality groups.
Rowling donated thousands of British pounds toward the group who brought the case before the court.
After the results were announced, she took to social media to gloat and take partial credit for the court decision in a post many found embarrassingly tasteless.
Count Coughlan among them. The actor, an outspoken supporter of LGBTQ rights, took to Instagram to clap back at Rowling and urge others to boycott her work, in particular HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series, which Rowling has been heavily involved with.
@nicolacoughlan/Instagram
In a since-deleted Instagram Story, Coughlan posted an article from The Cut about the Supreme Court decision, titled "This Is A New Low for JK Rowling," along with the caption:
"Keep your new Harry Potter lads"
"Wouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole.”
Coughlan followed up with an Instagram video in which she decried the court decision and the U.K.'s continuing "attacks" on trans people.
Coughlan said:
“I am completely horrified by the Supreme Court’s ruling yesterday about trans people."
"To see an already marginalized community being further attacked and attacked in law is really stomach churning and disgusting.”
Coughlan also announced a fundraiser, telling fans she'd match donations up to £10,000 for U.K. trans-rights non-profit Not A Phase, which has a mission of "uplifting the lives of trans+ adults across the UK."
On social media, people applauded Coughlan for speaking out and quickly raising more money for trans rights than Rowling did for the court case.
Coughlan urged fans to join her in supporting the trans community:
“If you are a cisgender person who is an ally of a trans person, I think now is the time to just sort of speak up and make your voice heard."
"Let your trans, nonbinary friends and just the community at large know that you’re there for them and will keep fighting for them.”
Her fundraiser for Not A Phase has since raised more than £100,000 (~$132,000) as of this writing.
During a Sunday appearance on MSNBC, Texas Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett spoke about the administration of Republican President Donald Trump refusing to follow a court order.
In a case that went to the United States Supreme Court, Trump was ordered to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's release from the CECOT prison in El Salvador and to return him to the United States.
In an attempt to curry public favor, Trump, his administration, and Republican lawmakers have painted the Maryland father as a dangerous criminal—without supporting evidence.
Representative Crockett called out the absurdity of anyone among the MAGA faithful objecting to rumored criminal activity from a man with zero indictments or convictions when they took no exception to the real thing.
You can see Representative Crockett's comments here:
Representative Crockett stated:
"We know that [the Trump administration] admitted that they were wrong [to abduct Kilmar Abrego Garcia]. Now they're trying to double back and say, well, he's this terrible person and all this kind of stuff."
"But here's the reality. As far as I'm concerned, he's a lot less criminal than the person that's sitting in the White House, because last time I checked, he doesn’t have any criminal convictions."
"I don't even think he has any outstanding cases versus the guy that still had cases pending when he was sworn in on January20th. And also has 34 felony convictions."
"So, listen, I don't want to hear anything from the Republican Party about how they're trying to keep us safe when their fearless leader is actually the biggest criminal thus far that we have seen."
"Because I haven't seen anybody with a rap sheet that looks like the President's."
People agreed with Representative Crockett's objections to GOP hypocrisy.
Jasmine Crockett (D-Tex.) called out Rep. lawmakers for talking tough on law and order but refusing to hold Trump to that same standard. “As far as I’m concerned, Kilmar Garcia is a lot less criminal than [Trump] ...he doesn’t have any criminal convictions; [but Trump ] has 34 felony convictions.” 👍

Crockett's words apparently struck a nerve. MAGA minions on social media are citing "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and calling for Crockett to be arrested.
The official X account for the Democrats called for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's firing amid revelations that Hegseth shared details about U.S. military operations in Yemen using his personal phone in a 13-person Signal group chat that included his wife and brother—despite a prior warning from an aide advising him not to share sensitive information over an unsecure channel ahead of the operation.
That news comes just weeks after Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg reported that he was invited into a Signal chat with high-level Trump administration officials, particularly Hegseth and Vice President J.D. Vance, discussing military strategy surrounding war strikes in Yemen.
Signalgate Part Deux angered the Democratic Party, and in a post, the official party apparatus declared that Hegseth "needs to go."
Hegseth responded shortly afterward with an attack against liberals:
"Your agenda is illegals, trans & DEI — all of which are no longer allowed at [the Department of Defense]."
You can see his response below.
Democrats responded to Hegseth's outburst with a meme of a blurry phone screen—"Pete's POV"—in shady nod to his history of excessive drinking.
@TheDemocrats/X
People were shook by the party's brazen response—and mocked Hegseth in their own way.
According to sources, the second Signal group chat included 13 participants but no other Cabinet-level officials.
Among those in the chat were Hegseth’s chief of staff Joe Kasper; deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick; retired Army sergeant major and adviser Eric Geressy; Navy JAG commander and legal adviser Tim Parlatore; Hegseth’s brother Phil, a senior adviser at the Department of Homeland Security; and Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer.
Hegseth’s brother, Phil, works at the Pentagon as a Department of Homeland Security adviser to Hegseth—but it remains unclear why he or Jennifer Hegseth would need access to or be informed about details of the military strikes in Yemen.
When asked about the existence of the second Signal chat, Hegseth lashed out and referenced two of his advisers who were escorted out of the Pentagon early last week amid an investigation into allegations of leaking sensitive information, remarking:
“You know, what a big surprise that a bunch of leakers get fired and suddenly a bunch of hit pieces come out. It’s not going to work with me, because we’re changing the Defense Department, putting the Pentagon back in the hands of war fighters, and anonymous smears from disgruntled former employees on old news doesn’t matter.”
Anna Kelly, White House deputy press secretary, also downplayed the significance of the second group chat, saying that "no matter how many times the legacy media tries to resurrect the same non-story, they can’t change the fact that no classified information was shared."
President Donald Trump was criticized after he took to Truth Social to wish a "Happy Easter to all" before quickly switching gears to rage at the "radical leftists" that live in his head rent-free.
Trump's post accused leftists of "scheming" to allow dangerous people into the country, a criticism the White House has leveled against those who've condemned their refusal to bring wrongly-deported Maryland father Kilmar Abrego Garcia—who they claim is a "terrorist"— back to the U.S. from a notorious El Salvadoran prison.
He wrote:
“Happy Easter to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting and scheming so hard to bring Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, the Mentally Insane, and well known MS-13 Gang Members and Wife Beaters, back into Our Country."
“Happy Easter also to the WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Judges and Law Enforcement Officials who are allowing this sinister attack on our Nation to continue, an attack so violent that it will never be forgotten!”
He also once again went after former President Joe Biden—mere days after using former President Jimmy Carter's death as an opportunity to troll Biden–to promote baseless election fraud conspiracy theories:
“Sleepy Joe Biden purposefully allowed Millions of CRIMINALS to enter our Country, totally unvetted and unchecked, through an Open Borders Policy that will go down in history as the single most calamitous act ever perpetrated upon America. He was, by far, our WORST and most Incompetent President, a man who had absolutely no idea what he was doing."
“But to him, and to the person that ran and manipulated the Auto Pen (perhaps our REAL President!), and to all of the people who CHEATED in the 2020 Presidential Election in order to get this highly destructive Moron Elected, I wish you, with great love, sincerity, and affection, a very Happy Easter!!!”
You can see his post below.
@realDonaldTrump/Truth Social
Many have criticized Trump's remarks.
This isn't the first time Trump has issued a similarly angry message to commemorate the Easter holiday.
In 2023, he was called out after using Truth Social to wish a "Happy Thanksgiving to ALL" before listing off a number of people he currently has grievances with and even predict "WORLD WAR III."
Trump's Easter message began with a "HAPPY EASTER" wish to all of his followers, followed by a scathing attack on the "weak and pathetic" Republicans-In-Name-Only (RINOs), radical left Democrats, socialists, Marxists, and communists who he claims are "killing our nation."
But Trump has also done the same on Thanksgiving, once using the holiday as a platform for a scathing diatribe labeling a spectrum of political adversaries as “Radical Left Lunatics, Communists, Fascists, Marxists, Democrats, & RINOS" and accusing them of seeking to "DESTROY OUR COUNTRY."
