Former GOP Secretary of State Rips Arizona Election 'Audit': 'I Worry About Our Country'

Former GOP Secretary of State Rips Arizona Election 'Audit': 'I Worry About Our Country'
LOCAL 12/YouTube

It's been more than six months since former President Donald Trump left office, but his lie that the 2020 election was "stolen" from him by Democrats engaging in widespread fraud continues to have national consequences.

The most searing example is the partisan audit of ballots in Maricopa County, Arizona, where now-President Joe Biden narrowly won by just over two points in results that were repeatedly recounted and verified by election officials before Republican state senators forced the county into yet another audit.

This audit is run by Cyber Ninjas, a security firm with no elections experience and whose executive posted conspiracy theories about the 2020 election online. The audit has gone on for months, hemorrhaging support within the Republican party.

One state official who initially supported the audit now calls it "embarrassing." Maricopa County's Board of Supervisors—a majority conservative body—has railed against the conspiratorial nature of the audit, with some of the audit officials even searching for bamboo fibers to support fantasies that ballots were imported from Asia.

Now, a Republican former Secretary of State can be added to the list of Republicans opposing the audit, judging by comments made regarding a recent report for the nonpartisan States United Democracy Center.

Kentucky's former Secretary of State Trey Grayson said calling the process an "audit" was a "disservice," continuing:

"Nothing that that report says should be given any kind of credence. ... As a Republican, as an election administrator, I worry about our country. I'm worried about the future of my party. And I don't want bad ideas like this running to other states."

He isn't alone in his evaluation.

The amazement was only compounded when the results of the "audit" were delayed after a number of audit officials tested positive for COVID-19.

Other swing states Trump lost are considering audits as well.

AOC Saves The Day By Giving Bronx Middle School Group A Tour Of The Capitol Amid Shutdown

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had people cheering after she stepped in to act as tour guide after a group of middle schoolers from the Bronx pulled up to the Capitol hours after the U.S. government officially shut down.

The federal government shut down early Wednesday after the White House and Congress failed to reach an agreement on federal spending. While Senate Democrats are in the minority, they hold enough seats to filibuster and are insisting that Republicans agree to extend federal subsidies for people insured under the Affordable Care Act.

GOP Lawmaker Sparks Outrage After Calling For Dem Rep. To Be Executed For Urging People To Protest Trump

On Wednesday, September 25, an Arizona MAGA Republican state Representative publicly called for the execution of Washington Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal because she urged anyone displeased with MAGA Republican President Donald Trump's job performance to exercise their First Amendment right to free speech and to protest.

Apparently, urging citizens to make their voices heard was a step too far for Arizona state GOP Representative John Gillette, who responded to a clip edited out of a longer video by right-wing account The Patriot Oasis (TPO). A quick scan through Gillette's X account media posts will reveal his political leanings.

Liberal TikToker Mortified After Discovering That Her Therapist Is Hardcore MAGA

There used to be a time where politics did not have to come into every room or be a part of every conversation. But in a world with President Trump and MAGA, it's not as simple as being Red, Blue, or Green anymore.

Now, the sociopolitical climate is dangerous for many people and still very stress-inducing for others. It's important to surround ourselves with people who make us feel safe and seen—and unfortunately, that might mean cutting out people who have "different beliefs" than we do.
