People on social media are applauding Serena Williams for donating breast milk she had left over from a recent trip to New York.

The tennis star took to Instagram to share a video showing off several storage packages of breast milk in her freezer.

She said:

"I'm really excited to donate some breast milk that I have left over from my trip to New York to people who really need it."

Williams continued:

"It'll be anonymous, but [I'm] super excited to just help."

In the caption, she explained:

"On a recent trip to NY I had left over breast milk."
"After going through a screening I was able to donate it instead of taking the milk home."
"I know so many amazing women that adopt or are unable to make milk. It felt amazing."

Williams finished her post:

Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, have two daughters, Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr. born September 1, 2017, and Adira River Ohanian, born on August 22 of this year.

In an essay for the September 2022 cover issue of Vogue in which she announced her retirement from tennis, Williams revealed that Olympia often shared her desire to be a "big sister."

"Olympia says this a lot, even when she knows I’m listening."
"Sometimes before bed, she prays to Jehovah to bring her a baby sister. (She doesn’t want anything to do with a boy!)"
"I’m the youngest of five sisters myself, and my sisters are my heroes, so this has felt like a moment I need to listen very carefully to."

We're sure she makes a wonderful big sister!
