Big news for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role as Wolverine in the forthcoming Deadpool 3 sequel.

Unless it's a prank, in which case we all grab our torches and pitchforks.

Jackman and Deadpool himself—actor Ryan Reynolds—announced the development in the way only they can.

Jackman joined Reynolds for a video teaser in which he appeared as the surprise solution to Reynolds' writer's block and fans are absolutely loving it.

See the promo below.

Deadpool 3 Update youtu.be

In the clip, Reynolds explains he's been hard at work on the next installment of the Deadpool franchise, but unfortunately he's hit a snag.

He's completely blocked on how to reprise his mutant mercenary as he finally enters the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first two Deadpool films were distributed by Twentieth Century Fox, not Marvel Studios.

But with Disney now owning both studios, many Marvel Comics heroes are coming home. In addition to Deadpool, the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic 4 were owned by Fox until the March 2019 purchase by Disney.

Reynolds shared in the video:

“I’ve had to really search my soul on this one."
"His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special."
"We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning."
"Every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart.”
“It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I … I have nothing."
"Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”

And just when you think the Deadpool series might truly be in danger, who showed up in the background?

None other than Jackman, casually crunching on an apple which suddenly sparked an idea for Reynolds, who said:

“Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?”

Jackman, casual as anything, simply shrugged and said:

"Yeah sure, Ryan."

The non-chalantness of course belies what any MCU fan will tell you.

This is huge news, since Jackman retired his Wolverine character after 2017's Logan, the final installment in the Wolverine trilogy that sprang from Jackman's several appearances as the character in the X-Men franchise.

This does raise some questions.

Thankfully, Reynolds and Jackman teamed up for a second promo addressing all your pressing queries.

Deadpool 3 Update, Part Hugh youtu.be

Naturally, all this news has Deadpool, Wolverine, Reynolds and Jackman fans elated.

Jackman's big return to the role that made him famous is currently in preproduction and slated for a 2024 release.
