Santa Fe Store Employee Calls Cops On College Student For Being 'Arrogant' And 'Black'

On Friday August 3. the Santa Fe Police Department received a call to have a young man removed from a store for being "arrogant and black."

Jordan McDowell, a 22-year-old Xavier University medical student, was looking to buy some candy when he wandered around the Allsup's store. He had already purchased some candy and went back to look again. Apparently he wasn't making his selection fast enough for the store clerk, who picked up the phone and called the police.

McDowell explained it this way:

They said I was sketchy because I picked stuff up, put stuff back.

As is now practically custom when African Americans are dealing with racism or interactions involving law enforcement, McDowell recorded the exchange as the woman phoned police. If you watch the footage, the clerk can be heard saying she wants the police to come:

...because he's being arrogant, because he's black.

.No charges were filed against McDowell or the store clerk, but McDowell told KRQE News 13:

There's nothing right about this and there's nothing right to call the police on someone just because of their skin tone. The first thing that popped in my mind absolutely was just discrimination.

Twitter has had enough with this horrible behavior.

Many feel people who make phone calls the one the clerk made to the police should be charged with making false and improper calls to the authorities.

Some folks were waiting for an apology or repercussions.

The store manager called the clerks behavior unacceptable but there has been no statement from the corporate office or any word on if the woman is still employed by the company.
