Unique names can be great.
They can help set a person apart from the rest in a good way.
But they can also be a curse.
From people being confused about how to spell your name to having to deal with nobody ever pronouncing it correctly, they can lead to a significant amount of frustration.
And people with common names are often subjected to the same lame joke, or bit of trivia, upon meeting new people.
The newest meme circulating around Twitter references a common occurrence for most people: when meeting someone new, the other person feels the need to make a witty comment about their name, or somehow manages to get it wrong despite it having just been said aloud.
Mispronouncing names was a trend.
A major trend.
People make some very strange associations.
You know what they say about assuming...
SO.
MANY.
PUNS!
Not everyone has a nickname, or wants one!
Sometimes they still get it wrong, no matter how much you explain.
A person's name isn't up for debate.
Is it really that hard to meet new people without making a big deal out of their names?
A simple "Oh, that's a great name," if you like it, paired with a sincere effort to pronounce it right, will go a long way towards making these interactions less cringey for everyone.
