2015 Trump Interview in Which He Admits to a 'Conflict of Interest' in Turkey Comes Back to Haunt Him After Syria Withdrawal Decision

2015 Trump Interview in Which He Admits to a 'Conflict of Interest' in Turkey Comes Back to Haunt Him After Syria Withdrawal Decision

Well well well...

President Donald Trump's announcement that the United States would immediately abandon the Kurds in Syria who helped combat ISIS shocked members of his own party, administration and the military. Most critics point to Turkey being unchecked in their attacks against Kurdish forces if once the US abandons their allies.

Many asked why the President would take such an action, but Trump appeared to already answer that question in December 2015 in an interview for Breitbart News. When asked then about Syria and Turkey, Trump responded:

"I have a little conflict of interest ’cause I have a major, major building in Istanbul. It’s a tremendously successful job."

He explained:

"It’s called Trump Towers—two towers, instead of one, not the usual one—it’s two. And I’ve gotten to know Turkey very well."
"They’re amazing people, they’re incredible people. They have a strong leader."

At the time, that strong leader was Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is still President of Turkey.

Trump's admission in 2015 ties into a frequent criticism of his presidency: Trump administration policy focuses more on personal profits or personal interests for the Trump family than international diplomacy and what is best for the United States and its allies.

People quickly agreed with the President's 2015 self-assessment.

And, of course, there is always a tweet.

As with his past tweets, President Donald Trump's words continue to come back to bite him. How far loose lips will sink this ship remains to be seen.

Design For New Commemorative Coin Featuring Trump Just Dropped—And People Can't Believe It's Real

On March 19, the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), comprising people appointed by MAGA Republican President Donald Trump, unanimously approved a final design concept proposed for a 24-karat gold United States semiquincentennial commemorative coin.

Instead of featuring the Declaration of Independence or some other images central to the foundation of the nation in 1776 or more universally recognized symbols from the last 250 years, the CFA chose a sketch based on a photo of Trump leaning over the Resolute desk in the Oval Office for the coin's obverse or "heads" side.

Gavin Newsom Said What We're All Thinking About Trump's Decision To Deploy ICE To Airports

After President Donald Trump moved to deploy ICE agents to U.S. airports amid a partial government shutdown that has caused exceptionally long delays at TSA lines nationwide, California Governor Gavin Newsom pointed out exactly why the move is so troubling for citizens and non-citizens alike.

ICE agents are still getting paid during the shutdown, unlike TSA agents, who are currently working unpaid and struggling amid the affordability crisis. News outlets have confirmed ICE agents have been deployed in airports that serve Democratic strongholds, particularly John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia Airports (New York), O'Hare International Airport (Chicago), and others.
