People Were So Here For Meghan McCain Confronting Don Jr. About 'The Pain You and Your Family Have Caused'

People Were So Here For Meghan McCain Confronting Don Jr. About 'The Pain You and Your Family Have Caused'
ABC

He wasn't ready.

President Donald Trump's eldest son, Don Jr., appeared with girlfriend and political analyst Kimberly Guilfoyle on The View to promote his new book, Triggered, but a number of tense moments during the show upstaged it.

Though the prince of trolling did his best to turn the entire panel into a YouTube comments section, cohost Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Senator John McCain (R-AZ), confronted Junior about his attacks on the Khans, a Muslim Gold Star family whose speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2016 sparked attacks from the Trump family.

McCain, who frequently speaks of her reverence for the troops, didn't hold back when asking what good the attacks (and the greater pattern of pettiness infecting American politics since the 2016 election) did for anyone.

Watch below.

McCain remained uncharacteristically silent throughout most of Trump Jr.'s segment but the one question she did ask was impactful:

"A lot of Americans in politics miss character and a lot of people miss the soul of this country. You and your family have hurt a lot of people and put a lot of people through a lot of pain, including the Khan family, who is a Gold Star family who I think should be respected for the loss of their son. Does all of this make you feel good?"

Trump Jr. took shelter in the oft-repeated talking points of Trump's unemployment numbers, the hypersensitive Left, and his father being a "counterpuncher."

The conversation soon turned to the Trump family's attacks on McCain's father, Senator John McCain, who succumbed to cancer last year.

Senator McCain was seen by many as a bastion of decency in politics, who frequently worked with Democrats and—up until the end of his life—remained one of the few Republicans unafraid to criticize Trump. The Senator earned one of Trump's harshest grudges when his deciding vote shattered the President's attempts at dismantling Obamacare and ripping healthcare away from millions of Americans.

During his campaign and after ascending to the presidency, Trump criticized the Senator for being a prisoner of war in Vietnam, and—after his death—decried McCain as "last in his class," in addition to countless other attacks on McCain's character.

Guilfoyle stepped in to defend Junior, noting that Americans frequently attack his father, before McCain noted that her father was dying of cancer at the time.

People praised McCain and the other hosts of The View for not letting up.

Like her father, McCain has never been shy about calling out the President, even introducing a subtle rebuke of Trump's baseness during her impassioned eulogy of Senator McCain.
