Miles Taylor, the Former Chief of Staff for the Department of Homeland Security under President Donald Trump, made headlines earlier this month when he denounced his former boss and warned Americans of the threats Trump poses to the rule of law and urged them to vote for Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

Now, with the Republican National Convention set to begin its second night, Taylor is coming forward in a new video fro Republican Voters Against Trump (RVAT) about the moment he decided to leave the Trump administration.

Taylor says:

"It was April of 2019. We were down at the border, and the president said to the senior leadership of the Homeland Security Department behind the scenes, we should not let anyone else into the United States. And even though he had been told on repeated occasions that the way he wanted to do it was illegal, his response was to say, 'Do it. If you get in trouble, I'll pardon you.'"

Taylor went on to say that officials reminded Trump that it was illegal to completely shut down the United States border.

He continued:

"[Trump] said, 'I don't care.' His exact words were, 'The bins are full.'"

Taylor's account bolsters a story originally reported by the New York Times last year, in which Trump told border security official Kevin McAleenan to unilaterally close the southwest border. Trump offered to pardon McAleenan if he faced legal troubles due to the decision.

Taylor's video is set to air on conservative network Fox News during the Republican convention.

People are eager to see how the video will affect Fox News viewers' perceptions of Trump.

When asked about her future political ambitions during an appearance at the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago, New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was notably candid, saying her "ambition is to change this country," as she ripped a Washington Post editorial that tried to knock her down a peg for her take on the morality of billionaires.

The progressive is not currently considered the frontrunner in early 2028 Democratic primary polling but some surveys suggest she has already emerged as a serious contender in what is expected to be a crowded field.
