In an appearance on Fox News' Hannity, Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy proposed that former Vice President Joe Biden should suspend his 2020 presidential campaign during the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.
McCarthy said:
"Joe Biden should actually make a pledge not to campaign while impeachment is on, if he believes in fairness and that Nancy Pelosi didn't do this for him."
Watch below.
He later echoed the call on Twitter.
His reasoning?
The impeachment of Trump benefits Biden because his opponents who are Senators might be busy with the Senate trial. The fact that Biden faces several opponents who are not sitting Senators seems to have escaped the California Republican's grasp of the situation.
And while the Fox News faithful may agree with McCarthy, others had another suggestion for who should suspend their campaign.
Accurate statement:
And some had yet another suggestion: vote McCarthy out in 2020.
Neither Biden nor Trump have commented on recommendations that they suspend their presidential campaigns while Trump goes on trial in the Senate.
And while McCarthy is concerned about the presidential election, the Senate's actions may affect the reelection chances of the 18 Republican Senators facing challengers in 2020.
