This 1958 Article About How To 'Get A Husband' Shows Just How Different Things Are Now ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Kim Marx-Kuczynski

With so much talk of making America great again, we can't help but wonder what it would really be like to return to the olden days, especially for women.

Kim Marx-Kuczynski, a Facebook user from Madison, Wisconsin, came across an old magazine that could possibly shed some light on what the "good ol' days" looked like for women. Marx-Kuczynski posted a 1958 article from McCall's entitled "129 Ways to Get a Husband," and we can't stop laughing at how ridiculously bad the advice is.

The article begins with:

"In the United States today there are sixteen million women over the age of seventeen who are not married. Presumably the vast majority of them would like to be."

Marx-Kuczynski's boyfriend spotted the magazine and a yard sale. Marx-Kuczynski tells Bored Panda:

"My boyfriend John Bascynski spotted it at a rummage sale and pointed it out. I bought it for a dollar. I think the article is reflective of the social mores of the era, and I found the comparison between what was acceptable then and what is acceptable now fascinating. It also made me grateful that so much progress has been made."

Going on to add why she felt compelled to share it on social media she adds:

"It's outdated and absurd and funny, but it had serious intentions. Society has changed so much in the last sixty years, and this article exemplifies the differences between what our moms and grandmas grew up with compared to ourselves and the coming generations. It's fascinating."

We have to think when people talk about the "good old days" if they were really that good for everyone.

Times change, and if you don't change with them you're likely to get left behind. That simple piece of wisdom applies to pretty much everything - up to and including the job market. It seems like a lot of older didn't get that memo, though.

Reddit user u/GeekyKirby wanted to get something for their boyfriend for his birthday, but he said not to get him anything because it is so close to Christmas, so they decided it was time to get creative.

When asked what they bought him, u/GeekyKirby replied:

I pre-ordered him a game [Kingdom Hearts III], and bought him a shirt and a book he wanted :) ...I also filled up his living room floor with balloons...

It seems minor mischief is a common theme in their relationship:

Thank you. :) At this point, I can't really surprise my boyfriend anymore. And I try lol. Like the time I secretly put googly eyes on everything in his fridge...

Oh, and they made him this Pikachu cake. You know, nbd.

Users were impressed by u/GeekyKirby's piping skills. Also, the hate for fondant icing is real!

If there's one thing Christian Bale is known for, aside from a very gravely Batman voice, it's the physical transformations he undergoes for his roles. The actor is known to yo-yo his weight from role to role, in order to better portray his characters.

Now, however, the actor is considering calling it quits on the dangerous transformations. In an interview with The Sunday Times, the actor described his process with playing Dick Cheney in the new film Vice.
