Gayle King's Anxious Expression Before Space Flight Goes Viral—And It's A Whole Mood

The CBS Mornings host joined an all-female crew that included the likes of Katy Perry and Lauren Sánchez for an 11-minute space flight on Monday—and her expression before boarding the Blue Origin shuttle spoke volumes.

Well they did it—it took all of 10 minutes, but Jeff Bezos' handpicked all-female crew flew into space for a hot second on Monday aboard one of his Blue Origin rockets.

And judging by her face as the crew boarded, CBS Mornings host Gayle King was not all that keen on going.

In addition to King, the crew was composed of aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, activist Amanda Nguyen, pop star Katy Perry, and pilot (and Bezos' fiancé) Lauren Sánchez.

As each crewmember boarded, they ceremoniously rang a bell on their way to the rocket, and each woman looked positively jubilant—with the exception of King.

As her bestie Oprah Winfrey teared up from the observation area, King was looking... well, positively petrified, as most of us would be! She approached the whole thing with her usual grace and aplomb, of course, but her expression was unmistakable.

She rang the bell with a sort of resignation that seemed to say "am I actually doing this?" and a facial expression that was somewhere between "are you effing kidding me?" and "Oprah would never do this" and "I am definitely without a doubt going to die."

Of course it sent the internet into hysterics for how it basically said what everyone was thinking without saying a word.

Officially, King spoke glowingly of the experience, joining Sanchez to speak to the press about how important the space flight was to women and girls and praising Perry's performance of "A Wonderful World" during the flight.

But to the internet King's face beforehand spoke volumes, and it became an instant meme.

King immediately kissed the ground upon exiting the capsule of the space ship.

When King realized she had become a meme, she explained her thought process as she was boarding.

And that really says it all!

It might be 2026, but there are still people out there with totally unattainable—and biologically impossible—standards for women and their bodies.

A key example is shaming a woman for not having a totally flat stomach. Meanwhile, this is a totally normal feature of a woman's body because it is where a woman's uterus is, and what we're seeing from the outside is the body's protective barrier for that and other organs.
