Actress Emma Stone took a lot of criticism for her portrayal of character Allison Ng in the movie Aloha. That's because the character is part Asian. Now, Stone found her moment to publicly apologize.

Sandra Oh, while hosting the Golden Globes, commented on the historical whitewashing in film, saying:

"['Crazy Rich Asians'] is the first studio film with an Asian-American lead since 'Ghost in the Shell' and 'Aloha.'"

Stone, who was sitting in the audience, shouted:

"I'm sorry."

After the awards show was over, Stone admitted she said it but that the outburst wasn't planned.

People watching at home picked up on it.



Some were happy with the apology.





Others thought it was too little too late.



In 2015 Stone spoke of the controversy, telling The Guardian:

"I've become the butt of many jokes. I've learned on a macro level about the insane history of whitewashing in Hollywood and how prevalent the problem truly is. It's ignited a conversation that's very important."

The actress definitely showed she has kept her sense of humor.
