'American Psycho' Is Getting A Remake—And Fans Know Who Should Play Patrick Bateman

While several names have been tossed around as to who should take the mantle of Patrick Bateman from Christian Bale, one actor seems to be the popular consensus.

Rumors of a new American Psycho reboot are leading fans of the original film to pitch casting ideas on who should play the new Patrick Bateman.

Christian Bale played the maniacal Wall Street yuppie from the '80s with a thirst for blood in the 2000 satirical psychological horror film based on Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 novel of the same name.

On the occasion of his novel's 25th anniversary back in 2016, Ellis spoke with Town and Country and teased about what Bateman would be up to in "an age of even crazier money."

In response to all the questions from inquisitive fans, Ellis said there was a possibility that Patrick Bateman "would have been the founder of a number of dotcoms" if the book "had been moved up a decade."

He also said that if he had written the book in the past decade, his unreliable narrator would have been "working in Silicon Valley, living in Cupertino with excursions into San Francisco or down to Big Sur to the Post Ranch Inn."

Patrick might also be "palling around with Zuckerberg and dining at the French Laundry, or lunching with Reed Hastings at Manresa in Los Gatos, wearing a Yeezy hoodie and teasing girls on Tinder," according to Ellis.

The discussion may have fueled renewed interest in revisiting the film that Ellis once claimed was "unfilmable" due to the graphic nature of the book.

A recent article from The Insneider reported that Lionsgate was "plotting" a new American Psycho movie set in current times.

While details remained scant on the unconfirmed project, fans submitted their picks on who could fill Bale's Louboutin loafers in the new reboot.

And the internet didn't disappoint.

They slayed with their casting choices.

The possibilities of what the next chapter could hold for the titular antihero are limitless.

Some fans thought no one could take up the mantle after Bale's all-in iconic performance.

But one name appeared several times—It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Glenn Howerton.

There was a direct-to-video sequel in 2002 titled American Psycho 2, starring Mila Kunis, but it was widely panned by fans, critics, and by Ellis.

But perhaps now is the right time for the studio to take a second stab at making a better sequel.
