Miss Helen the shark is back where she belongs thanks to tips on a Facebook post.
In what can only be described as a bizarre plan, three crooks were caught on surveillance cameras stealing a horn shark named Miss Helen from the San Antonio Aquarium on Monday night. In the video a man is seen removing the shark from the tank while another man brings over a baby stroller. The shark is wrapped in a towel and wheel away in the stroller.
Police were tipped off about a Facebook post selling a horn shark for $300. Following that lead led to the arrest of two of the three suspects. Miss Helen was returned to the Aquarium unharmed.
Talking to reporters, Leon Valley Police Chief Joseph Salvaggio said the thieves had a mock up of the aquarium in their garage and knew what they were doing:
Luckily, the thief was somebody who knew what he was doing. Luckily for the shark and for the aquarium, we were able to get that animal back in one piece.
Miss Helen was positively identified.
People were still scratching their heads at this harebrained idea.
And then came the jokes.
We are happy that Miss Helen is safe.
