Katy Perry Sparks Backlash After Voting For A Former Republican Billionaire For Los Angeles Mayor

The 'Firework' singer posted a photo of herself voting for former Republican Rick Caruso, who switched his party registration to Democrat in January.

"Firework" singer Katy Perry was criticized after she posted a photo of herself voting in the midterm elections revealing she backed former Republican Rick Caruso to be the next Mayor of Los Angeles.

Perry posted a photo to Instagram showing her giving a thumbs-up next to the ballot which shows she voted for Caruso, the billionaire founder and former chief executive officer of Caruso real-estate company.

Perry noted she is voting "for a myriad of reasons" but particularly because Los Angeles "is a hot mess [at the moment]."

You can see Perry's post below.

Caruso is a devout Catholic who switched his registration from Republican to Democrat in January, just short of when he announced his mayoral campaign.

He has characterized himself as pro-abortion and pro-reproductive rights, but an LA Magazine interview he gave in 2007 revealed he opposed abortion “in most cases."

Additionally, Caruso made donations to anti-abortion politicians right up until this year. While he reportedly pledged $1 million to support an abortion rights proposition, he has yet to donate any of those funds.

Perry herself has advocated for reproductive freedom and been associated with the Democratic Party, performing at former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's gathering at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in 2016.

Perry comes from a religious conservative background and as a child frequently moved across the country as her very strict parents set up churches. While not strictly identifying as religious, she has stated she prays regularly "for self-control, for humility."

But mere days ago, she posted a pro-choice video from the TikTok account @roevbros, which has gone viral after its host asked men how menstruation works and received wildly incorrect answers.

Many of Perry's fans reacted negatively.

They accused her of hypocrisy at a time when the future of reproductive rights is very much on the line.

Perry isn't the only celebrity to vote for Caruso.

Reality star Kim Kardashian, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, rapper Snoop Dogg, actor Chris Pratt, and billionaire Elon Musk have also voted for Caruso. Kardashian, Patrow, and Snoop have publicly supported efforts to enshrine reproductive freedom into law.

Teacher Stunned After Student Argues That People Shouldn't Have To 'Think Anymore' Thanks To ChatGPT

There's no doubt that ChatGPT and similar tools are growing in relevance and application, and they're growing fast. The problem is that many people, especially younger individuals, seem to struggle with how much they should depend on the tools.

We already knew that ChatGPT could be a problem regarding critical thinking and creativity, so maybe we should have anticipated the mindsets that would develop, snubbing independent thinking when tools like ChatGPT are available.

Bald Men Are Up In Arms Over Viral Chart That Predicts Political Affiliation Based On A Man's Haircut

Can a man's haircut tell you his political affiliation? Scientifically, of course not... but we probably all have a gut feeling about it, regardless!

And a TikToker has followed that lead by developing a chart that predicts a man's political persuasion based on his hair alone—and bald men are NOT happy about it.

Republicans Slammed For Soulless One-Word Response To Democrats' Trans Day Of Visibility Tweet

According to research by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law, transgender people in the United States were over four times more likely than cisgender people to be victims of violent crime based on statistics from 2017-2018. A study by the non-profit Everytown for Gun Safety found the number of trans people murdered in the U.S. nearly doubled between 2017and 2021.

In the last 5–9 years, those figures have only increased as the Republican Party has made trans people the target of many of their political campaigns and legislative actions.

Pete Hegseth Slammed After Calling Off Investigation Into Army Helicopter Fly-By At Kid Rock's House

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was criticized for calling off the U.S. Army's investigation after MAGA musician Kid Rock posted a video of an Army Apache helicopter doing a fly-by at his Nashville home.

The video shows Kid Rock saluting as the aircraft hovers near his property, standing next to a replica Statue of Liberty by his pool. In the brief clip, a helicopter that appears to be an AH-64 Apache—an attack helicopter used by the U.S. Army and National Guard—flies at low altitude near his estate in Whites Creek.
