Katy Perry Hilariously Reveals Her Mom Was Fooled By AI Images Of Her At 2024 Met Gala

The 'American Idol' judge didn't attend this year's Met Gala—but some impressive AI-generated images of her tricked her own mother into believing she did.

Katy Perry did not attend the 2024 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but her mom, Mary Perry, was convinced otherwise.

It turns out that an image circulating online—of someone who looked like the popstar and American Idol judge at the MET—was just a very impressive AI-generated photo.

At least its creator understood the assignment when rendering the image in Perry's likeness to fool fans.

This year's annual fundraising event theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," which Vogue announced in November.

The fake image showed "Perry" posing for photographers at the landing of the grand staircase in a stunning gown evocative of the Garden of Eden with its spring floral embellishments.

Here is the image of not-Katy Perry, the garden sprite.

There was another AI version of Perry as a fierce warrior, Defender of the Enchanted Garden edition, with her armor-inspired bodice.

Perry shared the images on Instagram and informed confused fans:

"couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work."

People suggested the singer was back in the recording studio putting the finishing touches on her long-overdue seventh album.

Included in the carousel of photos was a screenshot of her text exchange with her mom, who was bamboozled by the fake picture and wrote:

"Ha Feather! Didn't know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown."
"You look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol."

In response, Perry wrote:

"lol mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!"

Fans shared their amused responses to the buzz she generated without even trying.

The conversation continued over on X (formerly Twitter).

Who can blame her mom? We fell for it too.

Others have had enough of being tricked.

Perry's upcoming album will be her first release since 2020's Smile.

A spokesperson for the artist said the new album is her "most personal" yet and is one Perry has been diligently focusing on for the past two years.

It is expected to be "quite different from anything she has released before."
