I'm ready for Jeopardy?

All knowledge is power. Every detail we acquire can one day be a wonder. So we must never turn down even the most minute idea to commit to memory. With all the game shows about superfluous knowledge... who knows what can net you some heavy coin. And knowing all sorts of things can be great conversation with tons of laughs.

Redditor u/GrZneK wanted to know what useless knowledge we've all acquired that can be good for fodder by asking.... What are some facts that are useless but still fun to know?

"to the city."

The city of Istanbul was originally called Constantinople after the Roman emperor.

As it was a mouth full to say people would say "Stimbouli" which meant "to the city."

Eventually the word developed over time into Istanbul. trv22

July 4, 1826....

On July 4, 1826, at the age of 90, Adams lay on his deathbed while the country celebrated Independence Day. His last words were, "Thomas Jefferson still survives." He was mistaken: Jefferson had died five hours earlier at Monticello at the age of 83. Catlenfell

The Hunt.

It is illegal to hunt camels in the state of Arizona. SushiLegend

I don't know about other areas, but hunting laws around here work based a whitelist. Not a blacklist.

You may only hunt what has been allowed. Everything else is illegal. MildlyJaded

Jelly Belly..

There's a jellyfish the size of a fingernail that can kill a human pretty easily. It was discovered by Australian aborigines tribe, the Irukandji tribe, because people would go swimming in the ocean and just die. A doctor suspected it was a jellyfish and finally tracked it down, but he hospitalized himself, the lifeguard and his son whilst trying to prove it. sir_automobili

Gamma Ray.....

If the Earth is ever hit by a super powerful Gamma Ray burst it would arrive at nearly the speed of light so we'd never see it coming. It would also instantly kill all life on the planet.

So, when you're having a really bad day, there's always something to look forward to. Azozel

To Asia....

Christianity began where modern day Israel is. Israel is on the continent of Asia.

Therefore, technically Christianity is an Asian religion. RunDNA

Asia is kinda interesting anyway. I feel like Arabs have as much in common with Koreans as we do, yet they are both Asians whereas Europeans aren't. Eggplantosaur

People Share Laws That Don't Exist In The U.S. But Would Actually Help Millions

New laws are signed into existence all the time, but it's debatable at times who they're really for and who they are helping.

There are laws, however, that would be incredibly helpful to the general public if they could simply be approved.

Canadian Comedy Show Epically Skewers Trump With Hilarious 'Quiet, Piggy!' Storytime Sketch

For those lucky enough to live in Canada or along the United States border with Canada, This Hour Has 22 Minutes—shortened to just 22 Minutes since 2009—has been a bright spot in a sometimes bleak political landscape.

The show's format is a mock news program. Launched in 1993 during Canada's 35th general election, 22 Minutes was The Daily Show three years before there was one. 22 Minutes focuses primarily on Canadian politics with a combination of news parody, sketch comedy, and satirical editorials, but sometimes delves into international affairs.

Lizzo Offers Support To The Trans Community With Mic Drop Rant On The Red Carpet

Lizzo arrived at this year’s GQ Men of the Year party with her signature beauty, grace, and a clear message: protect all trans people. The event, hosted on November 23, honored figures including Oscar Isaac, SZA, Stephen Colbert, Clipse, Seth Rogen, Pusha T, and Pierce Brosnan. Still, it was Lizzo’s red carpet moment that quickly became one of the night’s most talked-about highlights.

MAGA Senator Offers Absurd Defense Of Trump After Mark Kelly Calls Out His Racist Rhetoric

After Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly called out President Donald Trump's racist response to the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., by an Afghan national, Oklahoma Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin defended Trump's rhetoric by claiming that Trump can't be racist because Mullin, who supports him, is part Cherokee.

The shooting took place on Wednesday, just a short distance from the White House. Once authorities confirmed that the detained shooting suspect was a 29-year-old Afghan citizen who had relocated to the U.S. after serving in a CIA-supported Afghan military unit, the Trump administration announced an immediate freeze on all pending asylum rulings.
