Delaware Animal Shelter Finds Dog With Devastating Note From Her Previous Owner 😔

There's a good reason that dogs are known as "Man's Best Friend," so it is hard to imagine how someone would feel if they had to give up their best friend because they can't care for them.

That is exactly what happened to the person who gave up their dog outside the Delaware Humane Association last week.

The dog, whose name is Sky, was found roaming on the shelter's property wearing a harness with a small bag attached that contained a note from her previous owner.

The note read:

Please take care of Sky she is 6 years old and friendly. I couldn't take care of her I became homeless and couldn't feed her. She is not sick just hungry very friendly. Please find her a home please.

Delaware Humane Association posted pictures of Sky on Facebook:

The caption reads:

"With each New Year comes new challenges and on our second day in, we welcomed one of our most heartbreaking souls yet. This skinny-mini's name is Sky and she was discovered yesterday morning by one of our easy-going dogs, who barked alarmingly at one of the normally uneventful corners of our property."
"This blue and white chocolate dipped girl was roaming freely with an incredibly oversized, spiked leather harness with a bag attached and a note inside saying, 'Please take care of Sky. She is 6 years old and friendly. I couldn't take care of her, I became homeless and couldn't feed her. She is not sick just hungry, very friendly. Please find her a home. Please.'"
"While we have all the questions in the world, we are just thankful this sweetheart made it to us before it was too late. We can't imagine this was easy for her former owner, so please refrain from expressing any negative thoughts you may have. Also, without further information, we have posted her as "found" on DAS in case there's a chance she was stolen from someone else. We are hopeful Sky's condition improves and her spirits remain high. The most important thing is, she is safe with us."
"If you are looking to start the New Year off in the most special way and want to help care for Sky and other animals like her, please head over to delawarehumane.org/donate/donate-now/#helping-hands, select restricted, and enter the note "Sky's the Limit" to ensure your gift is designated appropriately."
"If you are looking to help Sky get to a proper weight and safely, head over to our Amazon Wishlist (link here: smile.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/1GGJ22D04KQX7) to have items shipped directly to us such as Sensitive Skin & Stomach dry food, wet dog food and a variety of enrichment items, many of which will slow down her eating to help prevent further medical issues. Thank you all for your ongoing support! #SkysthelimitDHA"

Delaware Humane is seeking assistance in taking care of Sky, as well as any information about her owner. They would like to try to reunite them if possible, and are concerned about her owner's wellbeing.

Facebook users were both compassionate and understanding of Sky's former owner's circumstances.

Several people expressed a desire to help Sky's owner get back on their feet so she could be returned to a loving home.

Some pointed out all of the other dogs that are in desperate need of forever homes, in addition to Sky.

Many expressed thanks for the work that Delaware Humane Association is doing.

If you want to help dogs like Sky find happy forever homes, consider donating to the Delaware Humane Association, or to your local animal rescue organization!
