With some people's deep love for celebrities, it's no surprise there are some wild rumors and conspiracy theories out there.

From Elvis still being alive to Bruno Mars being Michael Jackson's long-lost son, there are some real doozies.

But one of our favorites right now has to be the theory surrounding Adele and Sam Smith, which argues Sam Smith is actually just "Adele in drag."

The theory has been around for a few years, but it resurged in popularity when Smith shared on The Drew Barrymore Show their knowledge of the rumor.

You can watch the clip here:

Barrymore asked Smith during the interview:

"What's the craziest rumor you've heard about yourself?"

Smith got right to the heart of it:

"Everyone seems to think that I'm Adele. In drag."
"Because we've never been seen in the same room together."
"And if you slow down her voice, it sounds maybe a bit like mine."
"So people think that we're the same person and that I'm just in drag right now."

Smith is correct the two singers' voices have a comparable quality and they're both famous singers originally from London.

But the most startling thing about the theory is how similar their voices are if they're represented at the same pitch, as shown in this TikTok video:

The theory blew up on Twitter, starting with the clip from The Drew Barrymore Show.

Some enjoyed thinking about Adele and Sam Smith's music together.

Smith and Barrymore continued their conversation, centering it around Smith's next album Gloria and what they mean when they reference "the body shop."

You can watch more of the interview here:

Smith pointed out the core issue driving this theory forward was Adele and Sam Smith have never been seen in the same room together.

The easiest thing to do would be for the two of them to plan a performance together, so people can see them on stage at the same time and enjoy their combined vocal stylings.

That sounds like a win-win for everyone.
