Elton John Biopic 'Rocketman' Is The First Film From A Major Studio To Depict A Gay Male Sex Scene

Rocketman, Paramount's biopic telling the life story of singer/songwriter Elton John, premiered at Cannes over the weekend.

And no matter what the reviews end up looking like, the film has already made history.

It is the first major studio film to depict gay male sex onscreen.

Though other well-known films like Brokeback Mountain and Call Me By Your Name have included gay male sex scenes, Rocketman is the first to be released by a major studio (not a specialty offshoot like Focus Features or Sony Classics) and aimed at a wide audience.

Though steps towards depicting gay romance on screen were taken during the 70's and 80's, studios have more recently become increasingly hesitant to portray the act.

Even 2018's Bohemian Rhapsody, which followed the life of famously bisexual Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury, took pains to avoid any overt references to the musicians sexuality.

Part of studios' reasons for this is, of course, the Chinese market, which has become a major profit center for American films.

Due to China's strict censorship laws, a film can be disqualified from showing in the massive country if it depicts or "promotes" homosexuality.

Despite this, Paramount chief Jim Gianopulos green-lit Rocketman, which contains not only homosexual sex scenes, but also "frank talk about John's sexuality."

Star Taron Egerton told THR he isn't sure what all the fuss is about:

"Everyone is obsessed with it. … For me, kissing a man onscreen is no less appealing than kissing a woman onscreen. I'm not in any way repulsed by the male form. [Kissing a relative stranger] is an uncomfortable thing regardless of who you're with — it makes no difference as to your sexual preference."

Go see for yourself when Rocketman hits theaters this May 31!

UFC fighter Charles Radtke was widely mocked online after talking trash about Canada before his bout with Canadian fighter Mike Malott—only to be soundly defeated by Malott in the second round.

Radtke leaned into the role of the villain leading up to the fight, invoking President Donald Trump’s talk of annexing Canada as the “51st state” and saying he was seeking revenge for Canadian hockey fans recently booing the U.S. national anthem.

High School Group Asks MAGA Rep. Why Trump Looks 'So Orange'—And His Answer Is Awkward AF

Things sure got awkward for Georgia Republican Representative Brian Jack after a group of students asked him during a Q&A session why President Donald Trump is "so orange."

People can only speculate what brand of makeup or bronzer Trump uses on a daily basis but there's a reason why he's been nicknamed "the orange man," "Agent Orange," and even "Mango Mussolini"—the color of his face is really, really hard to miss given he's photographed all the time.

Transportation Secretary Slammed After Admitting He Made A Telling Switch To Wife's Recent Flight

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy was criticized after admitting in a recent audio clip that he'd just switched his wife's Newark Liberty International Airport flight to one out of LaGuardia Airport—despite previously claiming his family flies out of Newark Airport "all the time."

Duffy’s remarks came as staffing shortages caused major flight disruptions at Newark on Monday, with the F.A.A. forced to delay incoming flights from across the continental U.S. and parts of Canada. According to an online advisory, delays averaged over 1 hour and 40 minutes and in some cases stretched to nearly seven hours.
