Bo Obama, the Obama family's beloved Portuguese water dog passed away on May 8, 2021, after a battle with cancer.

Barack Obama posted a truly heartfelt thread about Bo and his time with the former President throughout his political career as an unstoppable, unending force of love that got Barack through some of his darkest days.

Condolences immediately poured in from all sides of the internet.

And according to the former President, during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, even some people who Obama was very surprised to hear positive thoughts from sent them his way.

"I can't tell you how many people said, 'You know, I think you were the worst president ever but here's my dog and I really feel sorry for you because I know how close I was with my dog,'" he said.

"As I was reading these comments, it did make me sometimes think, 'Gosh, if we could be as kind and thoughtful toward each other as we are about our pets, we'd be doing a little bit better.'"

Obama also said Bo was the one "friend" he had in Washington who was nice to him, no matter what.

RIP, Bo.

You will be missed by us all.
