Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Fact Checks Donald Trump's Claim That He Is 'the Best Thing to Happen to Puerto Rico'

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Fact Checks Donald Trump's Claim That He Is 'the Best Thing to Happen to Puerto Rico'

Ooph.

It's been nearly two years since President Donald Trump's bungled visit to the American territory of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria ravaged the island. Trump infamously threw paper towel rolls into a crowd of residents affected by Maria, and told them the hurricane wasn't as bad as Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Trump claimed at the time that only 16 people died in Maria's wake, but later reports confirmed that the official death toll was actually over 3,000—the third deadliest hurricane in American history. Many of these were attributed to lack of power and federal aid to the territory, largely due to inaction on the part of the Trump administration.

This week, as a new threat—Hurricane Dorian—approached Puerto Rico, President Donald Trump chastised the United States territory for being in Dorian's path.

He continued to call the island "one of the most corrupt places on earth," before astonishingly claiming that he's "the best thing that's ever happened to Puerto Rico!"

It wasn't long before freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), herself of Puerto Rican descent, clapped back with a savage read.

Ocasio-Cortez not only reminded him of the 3,000 Americans on the island who died, but also told him he's not the best thing to happen to anyone but himself. "And even that's questionable."

Fortunately, Puerto Rico endured Hurricane Dorian with nowhere near the catastrophic level of destruction imposed by Maria.

The fallout from Trump's irreverence for Puerto Rico's residents continues, with Ocasio-Cortez being one of many voices against him. Among them: San Juan, Puerto Rico Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz.

Dorian is now barreling towards Florida.

Stephen Colbert Makes Somber Plea To Americans In Wake Of Charlie Kirk's Death

Late-night host Stephen Colbert had a somber message for Americans as he addressed the assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk, stressing that "political violence only leads to more political violence."

Kirk died after an unidentified gunman shot him in the neck as he—ironically enough—mocked victims of gun violence at an event in Utah Valley State University. Kirk's murder has galvanized the far-right, with President Donald Trump and his surrogates claiming without evidence that rhetoric from Democrats is responsible for Kirk's death.

Sometimes you can just tell when something was designed *for* women, but was not actually designed *by* women.

Take, for instance, the new pleated pants available at Target from the Champion clothing line. While there's nothing wrong with pleated pants and they certainly have a suitable spot in the workplace, the latest rendition of Champion pleated pants are, shall we say, NSFW.

Woman Goes Viral After Revealing How Her Obsession With Matcha Landed Her In The Hospital

Let's be honest: Too much of anything isn't good for us. It's all about the balance!

But the media and social media trends have taught us that certain things are really good for us, encouraging us to be like the "very mindful and very demure" girls and take care of ourselves. One such example is drinking more matcha, especially if you really like coffee or think you have a caffeine addiction.
