Chelsea Handler Brings Back Cringey 2014 Interview To Throw Some Shade At Piers Morgan

Chelsea Handler Brings Back Cringey 2014 Interview To Throw Some Shade At Piers Morgan
CNN

Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan walked off the show in a fury on Tuesday after refusing to be challenged for his negative comments about Meghan Markle amidst allegations of racism leveled at the Crown.

Amid a hail of criticism for his condemnation of Markle, comedian Chelsea Handler added her two cents with a TikTok video featuring a 2014 interview she had with the controversial British journalist and commented on his interviewing skills—or lack thereof.

She captioned the post with:

"Some a**holes get better, some just stay the same."

The footage was from a CNN interview in which Handler called out Morgan who apparently was checking his phone during a commercial break.

"I want viewers to know—I mean they must know because they're probably following you on Twitter—I mean, you can't even pay attention for 60 seconds. You're a terrible interviewer."

But instead of acknowledging the criticism, Morgan complained:

"Well, you just weren't keeping my attention. That's more an issue for you than me."

To which Handler quipped:

"Maybe that's why your job is coming to an end."

The comedian's coup de grâce was in reference to CNN's announcement a month earlier at the time that the network canceled Piers Morgan Tonight—which had seen a continual decline in ratings since its debut in 2011.

Handler's TikTok clip cut to her being asked later in the interview what she would do if she could relive one moment in her life.

Handler said without hesitation:

"It would be spending this hour differently."

Fellow celebs gave a standing-O for her wit and fearlessness.

In the gripping CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey, Megan Markle opened up about her depression and thoughts of suicide – saying at one point in the interview that she "just didn't want to be alive anymore" during her time as a member of the royal family.

She also touched on racist allegations inside Buckingham Palace stemming from concerns over the skin color of her unborn baby while she was pregnant with Archie.

But Morgan was incredulous about the claims made by the Duchess of Sussex in the interview.

On Monday's broadcast of Good Morning Britain, the unsympathetic host said:

"I don't believe a word she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn't believe it if she read me a weather report and that fact that she fired up this onslaught against our royal family, I think is contemptible."

Following swift backlash for questioning Markle's statements about her mental health as a royal, Morgan was confronted by his Good Morning Britain co-host Alex Beresford the next day.

Beresford commented on speculations of Morgan's lingering bitterness about allegedly being ghosted by the Suits actress which led to Morgan storming off the set in a fury.

Beresford told Morgan:

"I understand that you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She's entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has, but yet you continue to trash her."

Later that day, ITV announced Morgan made the decision to leave Good Morning Britain permanently.
