Yesterday marked a major milestone for Sia, and she took to Twitter to share it with her fans.

For Sia, September 11, 2010 marked her first day of sobriety. Yesterday, she posted on Twitter to recognize the 8th year of her commitment to a sober life.

Sia's struggle with drugs and alcohol began when she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She became dependent on the drugs she was prescribed to deal with her bipolar, and began using and abusing Xanax and OxyContin.

She also began incorporating alcohol into the mix as her fame and pressure of being in the spotlight grew.

In September of 2010, Sia's boyfriend was killed in a car accident. After the heartbreaking tragedy, she experienced her ultimate low and contemplated suicide. But fortunately, a friend called her as she was writing a farewell note and encouraged her to seek help.

Sia took her friend's advice, and 8 years later she remains on the path of recovery. In the years since she committed to a drug and alcohol free life, she has branched out from writing for other artists and has written her own hits such as "Elastic Heart" and "Cheap Thrills".

One of her major hits, "Chandelier", is actually about her struggle with alcoholism. The tune was a billboard topper and its music video, featuring Maddie Ziegler, went on to be nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Video.

Sia's fans are incredibly proud of her accomplishment.

Other are inspired by her achievement as they understand the struggle.

Congratulations, Sia!! Thank you for being an inspiration to us all.
