Speaking during a summit for Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander groups, Vice President Kamala Harris issued a passionate plea to young voters—even dropping the "f-bomb" in the process.
Harris, taking the lead in the Biden-Harris re-election campaign's advocacy for women's and reproductive rights, delivered these comments at a leadership summit. During the event, she also shared the story of her parents meeting at a civil rights march.
Harris made the following remarks while emphasizing the significance of breaking barriers and being a trailblazer:
“We have to know that sometimes people will open the door for you and leave it open. Sometimes they won’t, and then you need to kick that fucking door down.”
“Here’s the thing about breaking down barriers. It does not mean that you start on one side of the barrier and end up on another. There’s breaking involved."
"And when you break things you get cut and you may bleed. And it is worth it every time.”
Cheers erupted, to which Harris responded:
"Excuse my language."
You can hear what she said in the video below.
Many appreciated her strong response.
Although it is not customary for presidents and vice presidents to use profanity, it is increasingly common, albeit usually in private or leaked conversations.
In 2022, President Joe Biden was caught swearing on a hot mic while speaking with the mayor of Fort Myers, Florida. Biden was meeting with Mayor Ray Murphy during a trip to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Ian which resulted in more than $50 billion in damages and at least 130 deaths between Cuba, Florida, and North Carolina.
Biden apparently jived with Murphy so much that he joked, "No one f**ks with a Biden," to the delight of social media users.
Biden also once described his rival, former President Donald Trump, as a "sick fuck," according to sources who spoke to Politico.
