Here's The Important Lesson This Teacher Shared With Her Students By Wearing The Same Dress For 100 Days

It's not the most noticeable when you are an outfit repeater, but when it happens one hundred days consecutively, people mght notice.

Julia Mooney, of the greater Philadelphia area, began a campaign where she would wear the same outfit for 100 days straight, washing only "as needed."

Why? Because Mooney, 34, wanted to prove you are NOT what you wear.

Ms. Mooney initially didn't let onto her students what was going on, but eventually they figured it out.

"I was a little bit fed up with the cultural expectation to go shopping and spend all this money for other people to approve of me," Mooney said to Good Morning Americain November, at the beginning of her mission. "There is no rule that says I cannot wear the same thing every day if I choose to, so I thought, why not."

But why bring the same outfit to school every day? Well, Mooney says that this particular concern affects 12 and 13 year olds especially.

"As they try to define themselves, they are often identifying with brands or superficial things like their social media presence. Many seemed excited to have a reason to talk about how silly all of that really is."

Mooney has turned her crusade into a life-long one.

The original grey dress and scarf, she has now reportedly cut in two to make two new dresses:

She also wore her PJs to school in an attempt to be both sustainable and presentable:

And her crusade is drawing positive attention from around the nation:

Ms. Mooney is a mother of three children and eight chickens and resides with her husband just outside of Philadelphia in South Jersey.

In addition to making a psychological statement, not using so much water and/or fabric is also environmentally friendly--something we could all certainly learn from.
