The chaotic first presidential debate between Democratic candidate Joe Biden and President Donald Trump was filled with memorable—if cringeworthy—moments.

But people were alarmed when Trump wouldn't outrightly condemn white supremacy, even when specifically asked by moderator Chris Wallace.

Biden urged Trump to condemn the Proud Boys—a self-described "Western chauvinist" militia known for crashing social justice protests with the intent of inciting violence.

Trump urged the Proud Boys to "Stand back and stand by."

Watch below.

Given the Proud Boys' propensity toward violence against protesters, Americans across the country saw Trump instructing them to "stand by" for action against protesters and dissenters. Multiple members of the Proud Boys got this same message.

In case anyone wasn't clear on what Trump appeared to be instructing, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defined the terms in a tacit rebuke of Trump's assertion.

People highlighted the dictionary's definitions.

They were quick to troll Trump as well.

Trump has since claimed he didn't know who the Proud Boys were, despite appearing to during the debate. He claims that his calls to "stand by" were intended to mean "stand by the wayside" for law enforcement to do its job.

The next debate is scheduled for October 15.

Tariffs are a tax on imported goods, usually calculated as a percentage of the purchase price. While tariffs can shield domestic manufacturers by making foreign products more expensive, they are also used as a tool to penalize countries engaged in unfair trade practices, such as government subsidies or dumping goods below market value.

Bride's Friends Surprise Her With Montage Video Of All Her Exes At Bachelorette Party—And People Are Mortified

While Jenny Han's novel To All the Boys I've Loved Before was a major hit, and even became a great film success in 2018, not everyone's married to the idea of reconnecting with their exes after the relationships end.

It might be nice to imagine staying friends after the relationships, imagining our exes missing us or regretting losing us, or even giving us an apology for the things they did wrong. But most of us pine for this for a little while, realize it's all a fairy tale, and push past it to better things and new love.
