Hugh Grant Gave The Most Uncomfortable Oscars Red Carpet Interview—And Fans Weren't Having It

Ashley Graham and Hugh Grant

The actor appeared visibly annoyed to be talking with Ashley Graham ahead of the Oscars ceremony.

Last Sunday night was the 2023 Academy Awards ceremony or the Oscars.

The event is generally an enjoyable experience actors and entertainment enthusiasts look forward to, but like any other event there are bound to be a few people who aren't as excited.

Hugh Grant was in attendance, but seemed unhappy or annoyed to be there.

While being interviewed on the red carpet by Ashley Graham, the Notting Hill actor gave snappy, impersonal and dismissive responses that kept stopping the interview cold.

But the worst blow was a reference to Vanity Fair, which one believed to be a referenceto the novel while the other was thinking of the magazine of the same name's Oscars after-party.

You can watch the awkward interview here:

Model and Oscars interviewer Ashley Graham attempted to keep the conversation going, but it was clear the Four Weddings and a Funeral actor was having none of it, especially after the opening of their interview.

Graham asked Grant if he was excited to be at the Oscars as a "veteran" of the ceremony, to which he replied:

"You know, the whole of humanity is here. It's Vanity Fair."

Graham laughed and seemed to take this as a reference to the event's after-party, which was being sponsored and thrown by the magazine, when she said it was a place to "loosen up and have a little bit of fun."

However, Grant's reference appeared to be to William Makepeace Thackeray's Vanity Fair, which was a satirical piece that would harshly judge an event like the Oscars.

This misunderstanding between the two set the tone for the rest of the interview.

Graham continued with some of the usual questions, including:

"Do you have your hopes up for anyone to win tonight?"

Grant replied, looking around the room:

"No one in particular."

Keeping up a good front, Graham changed tactics:

"What are you wearing tonight?"

The actor responded:

"Just my suit."

The model quipped:

"Well, you didn't make it! Who made your suit?"

Grant could not recall the name of his tailor, to whom Graham then gave a shoutout to, before asking about his latest film.

"So tell me, what was it like being in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery? It was such an amazing film, and I really loved it. I love a good thriller. How fun is it do something like that?"

But Grant had only been in the film briefly as the husband of Benoit Blanc—played by Daniel Craig—in a reveal the character was gay.

"Well, I'm barely in it. I'm in it for three seconds."

Graham tried to persist.

"Yeah, but still, you showed up and had fun, right?"

Grant had clearly lost interest in their conversation at this point.

"Uh, almost."

Aware the interview was over, Graham thanked the actor for his time and moved on to speak to someone else.

Twitter was filled to the brim with secondhand embarrassment for Graham.

While many people enjoy watching the Oscars each year, it's likely a much different event to attend year after year.

For a "veteran" like Hugh Grant, being interviewed on the red carpet has apparently lost its luster.

Musk has made clear that he vehemently opposes the president's One Big Beautiful Bill—and will work to unseat any Republicans who've supported it, saying they've "voted for the biggest debt increase in history." He founded the new political party on July 5, the day after Trump signed the legislation, which adds roughly $3.3 trillion to the national debt.
