What happens when you recreate a crime online?

Sara, of @starringsaraa on TikTok, raised such a question recently after one of her videos went viral and generated a loy of feelings. In it a woman claims to be so furious her boyfriend was cheating on her, she decided to throw his mother's ashes and urn into a nearby river.

Sara captioned the video with the question:

"Did she take it too far?"

But with a closer look at the TikToker's account, Sara's description reads:

" Comedy [and] On TikTok just trollin'."

Sara was recreating something that actually happened in Texas.

Back in May, after allegedly discovering her boyfriend was cheating on her, a woman retaliated by taking his mother's urn and throwing her ashes into Lake Worth in Texas. The woman was later identified as Augustine Gladney and arrested by the Fort Worth Police Department.

She was charged with abuse of a corpse, as cremains and urns still qualify. In Texas, abuse of a corpse is a Class A misdemeanor that carries a $4,000 fine and up to a year in prison

Though there was some initial confusion—with viewers wondering if the woman in the video was Gladney—it seems the video was simply a recreation of the Texas incident to ask how far was too far when discovering their partner had been unfaithful.

It's unclear if Gladney has since been tried or sentenced. Gladney confessed to her actions in text messages, but doesn't appear to have filmed her revenge.
