Surprise, surprise.

President Donald Trump once again tried to go after Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) by intentionally misquoting Fox News to chide the co-chair of the House Intelligence Committee.

Following Friday's release of a House Democratic memo that contradicts the earlier-released GOP version, Trump accused Schiff in a Sunday afternoon tweet of using "distorted and omitted facts."

"So what else is new," the President whined. He then referred to Schiff as "a total phony."

Except that isn't what happened—not even close.

The Democratic memo "was supposed to be the rebuttal memo that was meant to show what was left out," Line pointed out.

Here is the actual tweet from Schiff, which was quoted verbatim by Fox News anchor Molly Line.

Schiff points out that it was, in fact, the Republican memo that "omitted and distorted key facts in order to mislead the public and impugn the integrity of the FBI."

As expected, critics of the President took to Twitter to share their thoughts. As Edward Sommer points out, "Trump's tacit acknowledgement that he is incapable of making his own determination of whether Adam Schiff's letter omitted or distorted key facts" is the real problem.

Twitter user Stevanpierce says what many Americans have already concluded; that Trump "speaks #fakenews."

But less than a minute after Trump sent his Twitter lie, he went after Schiff again. Trump claimed that "Liddle Schiff is shaking in his boots right now!"

Trump's lies were subject to supreme skepticism, because "the DOJ and the FBI also said that key facts were omitted in the republican memo."

In January, The Washington Post released a report identifying key reasons the FBI urged caution when analyzing and taking the Republican's memo seriously. Republicans had hoped their memo would discredit the FBI as their investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
