When it comes to film, the ratings typically are there for a reason. Personally, I spent my early teens watching insane horror movies that I probably shouldn't have been watching. And while most of them were really cool, there were definitely a few that I wished I could unsee. Here are some of the best stories of Redditors' childhood experiences with adult movies.

u/more9898 asked: What adult movie disturbed you as a child?

A legendary scene.

Alien. That chestburster scene was too much at the tender age of six.

oyofmidmidworld

Legend has it that Ridley didn't tell anyone what was going to happen in that scene except for John Hurt. All those reactions are genuine...

browncoat47

That's a long time.

Giphy

Child's Play. I was convinced a knife was going to come up through my bed every night for a week.

Hardcore_EHS

Me too except for like 5 years.

guzlord

This and 'Temple of Doom'.

Oh Gremlins had me absolutely scarred as a child. I never let a limb off the bed till I was 20.

Aft3rDust

I believe this may have been the movie that caused PG-13 to be a thing.

satoshipepemoto

Oh LORD.

There was an old department store we frequented that used to rent movies. The descriptions on the movies were written by the dude running that department, and my mom thought a movie about four friends who go on a canoe trip and get "more than they bargained for" was probably a good babysitter for my siblings and I while our parents were out.

At 7 years old I was not ready to watch Deliverance.

Berniethedog

That movie scarred everyone as a kid.

Giphy

IT but more specifically the scene where blood came from the sink. I was always nervous that that would happen.

canpigsflyyet

My parents let me watch IT with them when it premiered on TV. I was 5.

The scene where the photograph comes to life and Pennywise literally ROARS and then comes running toward the losers club to tell them he's going to kill them scarred me for life. I can remember screaming and my parents laughing because they thought it was so funny that I was so scared.

I've seen the movie several times since and while it is near and dear to my heart it is a big corn fest.

That scene still creeps me out.

And I developed a lifelong fear of clowns.

DragulaDracula

The director's cut had me shook.

The Exorcist. When she crawled down the steps doing a back bridge, that haunted me for a bit. Hell, I don't like that part now.

jakedzz

Oh god when it got to that part I immediately ran out of the room. F*ck that.

Cmander0789

Still terrifying as an adult.

Witches. There's this scene where the grandma tells the story of how her childhood friend was trapped by a witch inside a painting, and as the years passed she kept getting older too.

torsoboy00

Or the statue kid. Or the kids that got turned in to meat products specifically sold to their parents (American witches, specifically).

I'm more disturbed by children's movies as an adult I think. But, I very much disliked both The Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; just found something really creepy about them.

pbgod

The tunnel scene where the rowers keep on rowing and it shows no sign of slowing....

Grandpa Joe sitting on his lazy in bed for 20 years and he jumps up at the first chance of seeing a chocolate factory.

satoshipepemoto

The saddest scene in cinema history.

The Neverending Story. Rip Artax.

prettiestwhistle

Ah yes, the famous horse in the swamp scene.

Mamboo07

That whole movie is horrifying.

Don't know if it's an adult movie or not but the last scene in 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' that last scene with the bad guy and his crazy eyes scared me and me and my brothers all shared a room with the lights on that night.

lukeyellow

That was definitely not a kid's movie and I watched it over and over as a kid. It was creepy as hell but I guess I had a high tolerance for creepy.

Chefs Break Down The Best Cooking 'Hacks' Everyone Should Know

While some people find cooking soothing and therapeutic, others might break into hives at the very thought of it.

Mainly owing to the fact that they don't always find the journey quite worth the payoff of a perfectly cooked roast chicken, or a spongy and creamy cake.

Gavin Newsom Hilariously Trolls Trump For Struggling To Stay Awake During Antifa Roundtable

California Governor Gavin Newsom mocked President Donald Trump for appearing to fall asleep during a White House roundtable about Antifa, which the administration recently designated a "domestic terror organization" even though it's not an organization at all.

Antifa is a loose network of anti-fascist activists with no central structure, no funding, no membership roster, and no offices or leadership hierarchy for prosecutors to target.

Remote Worker Speaks Out After Job Uses 'Dystopian' Software To Track His Productivity

There are a few vital truths to every office-based job. First, there are going to be "busy work" moments, from meetings to admin tasks to minor side-quest-style projects that add to the company in some small way but otherwise feel like a waste of time.

Second, as human beings, we all need breaks to restore our mental focus, so a person who occasionally scrolls through their personal email, sends a few texts to a friend, or even scrolls Instagram for a few minutes, will likely be more productive than those who attempt to lock in and do nothing but their job throughout their entire shift.
