People Break Down Which Things Are Far More Expensive Than They Should Be

People Break Down Which Things Are Far More Expensive Than They Should Be

We can feel it in our gut when someone is ripping us off. Maybe we're in a tight spot, there aren't a lot of other options, and this is the only car repair shop for another hundred miles so you fork over that $200 for an air filter. Fine, whatever, but what isn't as fine are the items and services we've come to accept as expensive and over-costed in everyday life which have no right to be.

Reconsider what you're wasting your money on with the following entries below.

Reddit user, u/Basquis, wanted to hear what we shouldn't be wasting our money on when they asked:

What is WAY more expensive than it should be?

College in the US

Cloudstar86

I got an offer from my local college advertising a "low" tuition of $9500 per semester. And that's just tuition. Not room and board, meals, (ahem) textbooks, and all the other stuff.

Pay That Extra Penny To Be Sexy

Underwear, women's bras are unnecessarily expensive

clusterf-ck072

Yep! And if you're a DD cup size or larger; you'll end up paying triple the price to find a set that's pretty/sexy rather than something your 80 year old grandma would wear.

Clothing And, Oh Yeah, Medicine

Women's clothing. Have you ever notice that men's clothing is less expensive and better constructed?

Also medications. It takes pennies on the dollar for most of pharma to make the med but then that charge $100's if not thousands for most meds. They rip off the insurance companies who in turn cost us much more than really necessary.

You Can't ALL Be Boutique!

Second hand clothes! When did all these thrift stores start calling themselves boutiques? WHEN DID GOODWILL OF ALL PLACES START PRICING T-SHIRTS AT $20???

The_Mr_Extra

Yep. I just visited a "thrift" shop that was selling sweaters for $100. Like, that's not why I'm here.

A Lot To Go To Sleep

F-cking mattresses dude

Puzzleheaded_Mine_61

I don't get it at all. It's a few layers of foam rubber, some springs and some fabric. Why the hell does it cost as much as a used car?

Costs A Lot To See How Much They're Charging You

Prescription glasses (which are typically marked up 250%)

ckentley

This bothers me so much. Especially considering the bulk of the cost is due to the frames. Flimy plastic frames that are no better quality than the frames from a £10 pair of sunglasses or reading glasses. Yet, they want me to fork out £125. I'd rahter be blidn thakns.

This Is What They Mean When They Say "Poor Get Poorer And Rich Get Richer."

Having a bank account.

I shouldn't be charged a monthly fee because I don't have enough money in my account, that doesn't make any sense.

The Cost Of Living Is Going Up

Rents have skyrocketed.

In our area, a tiny one-bedroom apartment in an average area costs $1,875 per month.

Back2Bach

I hear that - I live in a small village town an hour outside of London by train.

There's now a whole 13 properties we could buy for £500k or under. Everything else is above. And I'm talking 1 - 2 bed flats / apartments going for north of half a million pounds an hour outside of London

It's not even a true "commuter town" we have one platform at our station and a maximum of 2 trains an hour, it's not even convenient.

What's even stranger is 6 or so years ago this town was so quiet that you weren't sure when pubs would shut. If people were inside they'd stay open until 11 but if it was a quiet night they'd be shut by 8pm.

It boggles my mind. But then again it doesn't really as I moved here as a commuter so it's just other people following suit but it still irks me

What? Is It Filled With Unicorn Bl-Oh, Got It.

Printer ink cartridge

jumpingmpjopa6

You mean HP brand unicorn blood?

endorrawitch

Lol. So true. It costs the companies so little to make them. For instance, a cartridge that costs the company $4 to make will sell for $125.

The way they get you is by pricing the printer itself low. Printer for just $125, but every ink cartridge (and they run out hella fast!) will set you back another $125.

And it doesn't use all the ink in the cartridge. It will say "low" and refuse to use the rest of it. "No f*** you low on cyan!"

And it will insist on wasting a ton of ink printing the alignment page, even if you don't want it to.

fallingleaf_271

Seriously. For Books? This One Hurts Students Everywhere.

College textbooks

Why tf am I going $80,000 in debt to pay for a college that then turns around and charges me $450 for 2 textbooks that I'll only need for a 7week class??????????

The-Broken-Radio

yea, but don't worry! once you're done with the semester and you no longer need the textbook, you can sell it back to your university bookstore! If your book is in good condition, you'll get maybe $2 or $3!

This Might Go Out With This Generation

Diamonds. They aren't rare by any means. They are more common than most gemstones. They're just controlled by companies.

EpicBlinkstrike187

It is definitely a marketing boosted value.

Conservative Influencer Stuns TikTok By Saying That Slavery Should Be 'State-By-State' Choice

In many ways, we should have all seen the recent election results coming, and chief among the missed signs is how cooked some of Gen Z's brains are.

Though the majority of the age group voted for Kamala Harris, a staggering proportion voted for Donald Trump at a far higher percentage than is typical for the youth vote where Republicans are concerned.

People Describe The Most Unbelievable Coincidences They've Ever Experienced

Coincidence is defined as "a remarkable concurrence—the fact of two or more events or circumstances happening or existing at the same time—of events or circumstances without apparent causal connection."

However, we often don't use the term exactly that way. The requirement of concurrence is often missing in the colloquial usage of "coincidence." We use it more often to mean "something that's not planned or arranged but seems like it is."
